With the population of the world at 8,280,145,563 people...

the sad total of Covid deaths to date being 7,010,681, it has not made much of an inroad into the total population.
The Black plague which ravaged the world between 1346 and 1353 killed about 50 million people out of an estimated population of 400 million.
This shows that modern humans will most likely never be exterminated by disease.
A large meteor strike is the most likely catalyst for our demise.

Can you imagine what the population would look like today if the plagues hadn't killed so many in the middle ages.. the 2 world wars including genocides killed 200 million people worldwide... and the Spanish Flu in 1918... of 100 million deaths....

Honestly, I just wish the nations of the world, iow their "leaders", would all realize how much better our peoples would be if we could stop the war machine. Just let the world go on as life should. Problem is, too many leaders want to play power games. We already have video games, how about those overgrown boys sit down, light up and have fun with them instead of making it real.

As I've posted herein occasionally, am very much of the opinion, there are far far far too many humans now on Earth for the health of both planet Earth and the human race. Getting humans to stop procreating even in individual countries is highly unlikely because of a list of obvious behavioral, social, economic, and religious reasons. But it is essential we do so and learn to live sustainably, else humans and our world are doomed, though it will likely be after our generation passes. Given so much warmongering, I doubt our race on its current path will avoid global thermonuclear war even during the current century, much less for a millennium.

At some point given how hopeless that is, I expect either an evil rogue nation or group will eventually create using CRISPR DNA technology, a weapons grade respiratory virus maybe atop one of our common cold viruses, far more virulent and lethal than COVID-19 that they themselves only have the antidote for.

Before releasing it given world wide transportation and the fact it could be contained in a small pocket sized vial, they might plant their bioweapon into large cities in all large nations across all continents and then under associated laptop computer with Internet control, electronically release it everywhere at once. It would take time for medical authorities to realize what was happening and shut transportation down, thus would spread to the point it would be impossible to stop until it ran its course everywhere. People would flee urban areas and create horrible dystopian chaos.

The world population at the start of World War II (circa 1939–1940) was approximately 2.3 billion people.
Despite the catastrophic loss of life, there were more births than deaths throughout the conflict, leading, incredibly, to an overall net increase in the world population during the war years.
My wife and I rarely let it be known that we have no children, the cross examination can be quite intimidating.

you can't win with people.. who feel it's their business whether you have children or not... or in fact even how many you have.

After my daughter was born, I was bombarded with people teling me..telling me that I couldn't just have one child.. how selfish I was etc , etc.. it never let up.. I was getting told I MUST have another before she was 6 or they would NEVER bond...

My ex m-i-l was the worst of them all....but just about everyone who learned I had one child ''Just one'', they would exlaim in horror... she's going to be lonely.. don't do that..... she wasn't lonely she could choose to have friends round whenever she wanted

The actual fact was I'd lost a child in Miscarrriage.. and I wasn't about to put myself through it again.... but it was no-one else business and I never told them

...and in adulthood my daughter herself has chosen to be childless.... as many of her age group have !

All quite possible, unfortunately. I sure hope the wrong person never reads this though!

This subject reminds me of a comic I found hilarious, in one of Dad's "magazines" I snuck out of his shop when I was a young teen.

The comic showed an Airliner with the Trojan name and symbol painted on the side, and they were unloading and offering their goods in what I think was Africa. Me and my friend both got a laugh out of it.
