Woo hoo... just received a photo of me from a friend

squatting dog

Remember when... thirty seemed so old.
My buddies granddaughter sent me a picture.
She found it while going through the stuff his wife had when he passed. (agent orange got him).
There were very few pics of me as I was always the one taking them.
This one shot of me was taken right after the battle of "shit hill". (a fight that will never be found in any books).

We were on patrol and stopped for a break. There was a small hill with a convenient log for dropping your pants and doing your business. Well, after a few others, Eddy took his turn and while sitting on the log he noticed some VC come into the clearing on the other side of the hill. Sitting there without his rifle, (a cardinal sin), he had no choice but to roll off the log into the ahem... human waste while shouting VC.
A brief but fierce but stupid fight erupted as both sides were shooting uphill. Lots of red and green tracers flying through the air, scary, but really not doing any damage. All of a sudden, there were red tracers flying mighty close to us and coming from behind us. We didn't know that there was also a ranger patrol out there and when green tracers came in their direction, they naturally fired back. Finally made radio contact with the rangers and broke off contact withe the enemy. (who faded away into the jungle). We moved on, but poor eddy was half covered with poo and nobody wanted to be downwind of him.

I know you clearly remember the circumstances of this photo.. you look so sad and exhausted, but it still must be a great delight to you to see after all this time... but as you know I take a lot of photos, and when I see one I haven't seen for a very long time, I look at the minutiae and see if I remember those.. so do you remember that ring, and that watch ?

Yes. the watch took a dump and while recovering from the knife wound, I got a more manly one. (more befitting a man of my stature) :ROFLMAO: The ring was my high school ring and I sent it back to a girl friend who later threw it off the George Washington bridge while arguing with me. (my fault... I was totally messed in the head).

I remember seeing this pic before. You posted it quite awhile back.

I remember those watches that had the big leather bands with the smaller watch face that basically "snapped in". I had a few of them as well. They were so cool at the time.

Thank you and your daughters for all of this service to the great USA!
Our village's last combat veteran (KIA) funeral was a female veteran, and 150 members of the Patriot Guards accompanied the casket from Rochester to Cohocton, NY, and we will ever forget this sad day.

Devin's father, her sister, and both brothers all served in the Military. This is a small village surrounded by the Town , where I live,
with lots of farms and plenty of veterans. And my daughter is a veteran too -and almost every family on the road I live on, has at least one veteran in their family. At one point there were 4 widows of disabled veterans, now there are just two of us.

I like your 'mantra'- well put... I get it.
