Word of the Day: Bight

Bight (noun) - a curve or recess in a coastline.

Would a large bay be considered a mega-bight?

The way I've heard this used is also one of the definitions:

a loop of rope, as distinct from the rope's ends

I heard (and read) the term when learning to do the knots used for climbing. I would also imagine that it's used by those tying lines on ships and boats. It's also probably used in the construction trades.
