Word of the Day - Creche

And there's an 'old Christmas tradition'
to take a piece of straw from the creche
and you won't be without money the next year.
Hey! what can I say...I heard about this from a friend..
who's ole-Italian -Mother did it.😉

I have about 10 Nativity scenes of various sizes and styles. Only 4 carry the title of creche. I learned somewhere many years ago that a creche is when the Nativity scene has a shelter over it.

My mom had a deluxe ceramic Nativity set. The figures were quite large - the Wise Men's camels were probably around 8 inches tall and it had shepherds, Magi, the Holy Family, camels and several barnyard animals. One year I built a simple shed for the Holy Family so it would look more "traditional". I wish I had kept the photo I took of it when set up. A few years after mom passed, I tried to sell it and it took a lot of doing and price reduction. I think my mom paid $50 for it in the 1970s and I had to let it go for $10 - it was the only interest I had in it.
