Word of the Day - Earthshine

Earthshine - the faint illumination of the part of the moon not illuminated by sunlight, as during a crescent phase, caused by the reflection of light from the earth.

I often wondered why I could faintly see parts of the moon that weren't lit by the sun, and learned today that earthshine is responsible.

Earthshine is a wonderful word with an interesting meaning.

It is also a word that is difficult to get the computer to stop trying to correct.
