Word of the Day - Euphemism

I hate that people say "passed" for "died," like most euphemisms, it is a copout.

The trouble with a euphemism is that it can be confusing.

Right.
Sometimes the meaning is clear from context combined with how common the usage becomes.

However sometimes not.

Such as the euphemism , he got sick.

Instead of: he vomited.

This is very true, and there are national differences too. For instance, if someone were staying in a hotel and asked reception to 'knock them up', it would mean one thing to an American and something quite different to an Englishman.

Euphemism (noun) - an innocuous word or expression used in place of one that is deemed offensive or suggests something unpleasant.

Passed away is a euphemism for having died.
My post to another thread earlier today regarding Total Relaxation

On the couch with comforter, laptop and TV w/ a good documentary or something funny and maybe popcorn.
Total Relaxation is a euphemism for death.

(See, you DID help one dummy! Thanks!)
