Halfpace

It is a landing, certainly, but not just any landing. It refers to that small landing at the top of a flight of stairs where you have to turn and take another flight of stairs whether going up or down.​

My cat Stella enjoys resting on the halfpace of the stairs where she can observe the family in the living room.

My husband fell down the basement stairs a few years ago, and he laid on the halfpace for a good 20 minutes in excruciating pain, ending up with a blood blister on his back the size of a turkey platter.

No draining, Sliver, but was he ever crippled for a good number of days and in lots of pain/discomfort.

We have brass stair edges, and that's what he slid all the way down on, full force, feet first.
