Word of the Day: Okapi

Ruthanne

This mammal is native to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa. Despite the zebra-like stripes, it is actually more closely related to giraffes. Okapi's coat is a chocolate to reddish brown, much in contrast with the white horizontal stripes and rings on the legs and white ankles.

Ruthanne. I have never before seen this animal need alone heard of it.

Reminiscent of... "look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman", when dear husband and I were on a recent trip to Africa, we went on a safari and at one point caught ourselves repeating the same verse... "look, look ahead, it's a zebra, it's a horse, it's a giraffe, NO... IT'S A OKAPI"!
