Word of the Day - Portmanteau...n.

Def.: A word blending the sounds and combining the meanings of two others,
For example motel( from 'motor' and 'hotel')

Podcast is a Portmanteau, a made-up word coined from a combination
of the words iPod and broadcast.

Others: biopic (biography & picture)
Newscast (news& broadcast). Romcom (romance & comedy)

They will be having a family brunch. (Breakfast & lunch)

I would guess that any list of portmanteaus, now in use, or even just the ones added into common usage within the past decade, for modern concepts,
is likely very long!

At times in the past, Portmanteau meant a large, bulky type of suitcase.

Some Hollywood personalities became known by their portmanteau; for instance, brangelina for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie no longer together but the name lives on through the children born to them - Brangelina kids.
