Prognosis is a medical term for predicting the likelihood or expected development of a disease, including whether the signs and symptoms will improve or worsen or remain stable over time; expectations

In 1986 my father's prognosis was, There is no hope of living beyond 12 months

I find that prognosis is a rather confusing term, because as a prediction of the future,
we might take it as lightly as we do a weather forecast;

Yet we usually believe a medical prognosis to be far more factual and definitive than that.

So, when is an educated guess, less of a guess, and when is it .... well, a guess?????
