Propinquity (noun) - nearness in place or time; proximity.

The elderly couple moved to be in propinquity to their adult children.

This really expands my vocabulary. I guess I am revealing my literacy, but no one I know would ever have a clue what it meant if I had used it as in your example. They wouldn't respect me for being better educated by it either. Probably they'd judge me as being 'uppity and snobbish'. I'd expect this would be used in some literary class who appreciates words of this sort.
