Working From Home

If any of us still working, are any working from their homes?

If so, do you enjoy it?

For me, it's a blessing, especially living in the NE USA; no more shoveling out my car; no more scraping ice or treacherous driving. The time saved into my life is great. I can walk my little dog more, water my flower pots, take a shower, do a quick chore or throw something into the oven during breaks & lunch time. I'm ahead of the game.

I can roll out of bed and be at work within 10 minutes and work in my nightgown If I so desire!

The wonderful plus is less gas consumption, less emissions, less vehicle wear & tear, less traffic on the roads and less accidents! One may even report lowered mileage to the car insurance company for a rate reduction!

Drawbacks to working from home include; missing the socialization with co-workers, having a nice cafeteria with ready-made foods, going out to lunch with co-workers and the fact that... if the Office closes for weather emergencies, those employees get paid anyway, but Home Workers are expected to stay on the job (unless power-outage)... which I will gladly do.

Any company that relies on the Internet for business might develop a Remote or Home Worker Program. Everyone wins.

What are your thoughts/experiences?

Hi Rose, for a long time I commuted 23 miles each way to our family business. As in all large families, there are those that don't get along. That was me and my brother-in-law. I was accounting, he was sales. Then my 83 year old mother-in-law turned control of the business over to me. After many year of dealing with an uncomfortable working relationship with the brother-in-law, I agreed that l would take control only if I could move my office to our home.
I was much more at ease, my concentration tripled, I got where I could do five days work two.
My family, marriage, college, and nervous system all benefited. Being able to hug one of my kitties or dogs always made my days brighter. If I needed to go into the office once in awhile, no problem.

Ina, that's an interesting if kinda sad situation, but I see how well it worked out! Glad to know how you benefited from working at home and the business also. Not to mention the critters. Thanks.

I have been looking for a legitimate company where I can work from home. Can you please tell me if the work you do from home is for a company or is it your own business? Any information would be appreciated.

I have always gone to work and came home from work. I thinks it is healthy to keep your work life separate from your home life. I would think working at home would require a great amount of self-discipline.

Spirit, I work for a large insurance company. There are still some jobs left that haven't moved offshore in the service field. Try the insurance business.

I work from home under ADA accommodations. I teach college 100% online. I've been full time at the college for 25 years and teaching from home for the last 5.
