Queen Elizabeth‘s passing has gotten me thinking. I’ve always thought that in this day and age, the idea of a monarchy is pretty outdated. Having said that, i also think if you’re going to have one, you could do lots (and lots) worse than the UK. And in the case of the UK, I think the monarchy is just fine.
Of the world’s other remaining monarchies, a good number are constitutional monarchies. Outdated perhaps, but basically harmless. The absolute monarchies, not surprisingly, are mostly in the Middle East. I am unwilling to speculate on whether or not they are harmless.
