Worst pain of my life!

Well folks, I had an awful day yesterday.

I haven’t been feeling well for a few days now, my symptoms were indicative of a UTI, but my back was involved too, hurting in a way that I figured it was a kidney infection (I am prone to UTIs, get several a year) so I intended to head to the DR and get some antibiotics. I did wonder if I'd maybe strained my back somehow along with the UTI because I'd get twinges when I moved certain ways and you can't bring kidney pain on just by moving.

Yesterday morning, just standing at the counter making breakfast, I somehow did some awful thing to my lower back which suddenly and completely out of the blue felt like someone had plunged a knife into my lower back. I have a high pain threshold, but this was without question the worst pain of my entire life (and yes that includes childbirth!
😳
) It had me completely crippled, I was clutching the kitchen counter so I wouldn’t fall down because my knees gave way from the acute pain, seriously considered calling 911 ( and I've never been so physically compromised that I've ever had to think about that) Huge mess everywhere from the smoothie ingredients that slipped from my hands when the pain hit.

I’ve been to both my chiropractor and my Doctor. Acute lower back pain resulting from a compressed disc (likely L3) and pinched nerve in my lumbar region. Compounded by a hefty kidney infection…Ugh.

I’m on strong antibiotics, got a steroid shot, an RX for muscle relaxants, a medicine ball on which to stretch my spine, and long lists of instructions from both my chiro and my MD, which basically boil down to ice, rest, don’t push it, and take care of yourself!

Ron has been my constant companion thru all this (I couldn’t drive) and my daughter Paige is as always my premier researcher and support person, stayed with me on the phone until Ron came home from work because yes, I called him away from his job I was that freaked out!

I STILL managed to pick up my hearing aids late in the day yesterday, which I've reported on elsewhere.

Please send me all the good mojo, prayers, healing vibes, whatever your thing, because this seriously AIN’T NO FUN!

well I definitely will send you everything you need healing vibes wise..because I've been there where you are now on several occasions .. and it's horrendous pain (I have 6 herniated lower lumber discs ) ... you will get over it with the help of the cortisone injection and PK's etc.. but it is so painful it could almost make your heart stop... i know only too well..

Hope you're out of Pain soon.... 💐💐

So sorry to hear that, Ronni. Follow Doctor's orders and REST.

i have a high pain threshold too and one of the downsides, is we often don't stop and seek help for injuries as soon as we ought, or rest and recuperate as much as much as we ought.

Sending positive thoughts, keep us posted.

@PamfromTx never had anything like this before. I’ve had some relatively minor back issues that a few chiropractic visits solved. Never had that level of pain from anything and never had pain o set that sudden.

@RadishRose the pain is a bit less this morning (I think that’s from the steroid shot) but I’m still moving like I’m crippled. I just took my first muscle relaxer and I’m curious to see if that brings it down another notch or two.

@hollydolly Yeah that pain OMG!!! I’ve never experienced anything like it. I am not a wimp, not the hysterical sort, the definite no drama type. I just soldier on through most physical ailments often with no one even knowing I’m sick or in pain. So when I tell you I actually shrieked when that pain hit (Me! The same person who barely made a sound through the homebirth of my 5 kids) and seriously considered calling 911 for the first time ever in my life, that’s how bad that pain was. You have my deepest sympathy for what you’ve been through. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

I’ve spent this morning on the couch, calling clients, doing some work from my computer and phone, and trying to relax.
