Would you ever consider retiring in the city/town/hamlet of your birth?

No. It’s too big, too crowded and definetly too too expensive. The state also has one party rule which I believe is harmful to the citizens regardless of the party that rules. And the governor acts and dresses like a used car salesman.

Absolutely not! I was born in NY, and when I left after graduating, I never looked back. I now live in Southern California on the beach.
It does not get any better than this.
NYC?

Having been born in LaR ochelle France, I would love to be an Expat there. Unfortunately, both my parents were American and citizenship, even with a French birth certificate, is not possible. And I do not have the money to just have a repetitive tourist visa. Given the tenor of our country at the moment, I would love to relocate.

So I insulate myself from all the rancor and division, live in my own little bubble. Nothing I can do.

Why is citizenship impossible? My BFF and I were just discussing two days ago about what it might take to get citizenship or even be allowed to stay in foreign countries, given some we know are talking about moving to (whichever) one.

France does not offer jus soli. There are some options along the line of extended tourist, digital nomad, ... .
There is a lot of click bait out on the web. "Best countries to move to" - study the fine print on the respective county's immigration site. Traditional retirement countries have updated visa requirements and col is catching up all over the world.

There is no going back in time! My hometown now has over 50% residents of migration origin, a surge in crime, cultural institutions are closed, vandalism, it is not safe to use public transport. Traditional dialects, traditions, clothes are gone.

I find myself back in the little village of my childhood, and I hate it. Only been here about 5 months and will be moving ASAP. Not sure where to go, maybe back to Florida or Arizona or even back to Hawaii (Big Island).

You can't go home again.

No.

My feet were traveling feet, looking for my retirement Nirvana much of my adult life. I found Nirvana in 1990 but it took me until 2003 to get here - and I’m not leaving🤠🤠

My brother and his family are equally as well travelled (in the U.S. & Canada) but he is thankfully happy to be the third generation to own our family’s farm; his son now lives there and does the upkeep - as it should be.🤠🤠
