Would You Qualify For Long Term Care Benefits For Assisted Living?

Despite the fact that I have a LTC policy I don't, and pay my monthly rent out of pocket. The insurer says I am too INDEPENDENT. I need no help in dressing or bathing myself and can manage my meds and meals without assistance. I guess that's good for me so far. Many of my fellow residents that live in this quality facility are not as fortunate.

I wouldn't as I am classified as independent also. But I don't have a LTC policy and could not afford to live in a nice place like Lon's. The day may come when I have to spend down what few assets I have and depend on Medicaid to go into an assisted living facility. Right now I own my condo out right and can live by myself. Hope I can for many more years.

Like the old saying timing in life is everything. I don't want to go into an assisted living facility too soon and I don't want to wait too long. I can afford to live in an assisted living facility for the average 3 years and skilled nursing for the average 2 1/2 years and still have enough money left over to tip the Uber driver when we get to the cemetery. I don't think it really matters though, I don't see many elderly people living and dying on the sidewalks in my city. In the end everybody seems to make it across with or without money.

I could have opted for more LTC benefits with my insurance, but I don't plan on using them. My plan is to not be here when/if I am unable to care for myself. That's just me. I have no opinion one way or the other about how people choose to live out the last years of their lives, but my choice is to go when I feel it's time.
