I took the bull by the horns today and thoroughly cleaned out the bottom of the bird cage. I had just been cleaning the tray but today cleaned the whole shebang!! Yee hah!! I am celebrating now! I also put some new branches in the cage and I'm sure the birdies will like them. They are sitting on their play pen right now but will go to sleep later. It feels so good to get that done!!:cheers1:

Good for you darlin'!!!! Our rat cage is like that. There's a tray that pulls out and can be soaped up and filled with fresh litter. But every couple months the whole cage has to be washed top to bottom. It's hard work, maybe takes an hour or two to finish, but you know you done good afterwards. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Thank you Fur! It is a big chore to do the whole shebang isn't it? I was so glad to get it done. I used dawn and a scrubby thingy and all the stuffy came off with hot water, too. Then I let it dry. I thought of using bleach but that wouldn't be good for the birds' health. For some reason they are not not going in their cage yet. Maybe it's because I put new manzanilla branches in there. They will gnaw on them once they get used to having new ones. I am just so glad it is clean now. Yay!!! :woohoo1:

What kind of birds do you have Ruthanne? We had a few birds over the years but our three favourites were a budgie named Oliver (he lived with us from when he was a baby until he died at 11 or 12) and then we had two of those tiny zebra finches as well.

Hey Debby! It's so hard to lose the birdies, I know, I lost Lucy last year. I have had several parakeets over the years, too, and now I have 2 of them named Danny and Bailee. Danny is the blueish gray and Baileey is the green and yellow. Danny is going on 7 and is very healthy and Bailee is almost a year old now. This is them on their playpen:

Budgies are my favourite of the parrot family. They're cute and so personable. Our little Oliver could say about five phrases in his lifetime and his favourite food was spaghetti noodles and broccoli. Oh my gosh he could get so messy with those:)!

Your little guys are adorable and have such a nice little playpen. Do they fly around a lot or are they happy to chill in their playground?

f I could, I'd adopt one or two but Ziggy makes that impossible. He gets positively wound up by the discarded crow feathers I've collected for him. Acts like they are catnip so can you imagine what he'd do with a birdie? So I'll just have to rely on my memories of little Oliver.

Yes, I love the budgies, too. The only other type of bird I've had is a crow. He was great and flew outside and came back to me all the time until he mysteriously disappeared one day.

My keets fly around the living room and have lots of fun doing that. When people have been here and the birds were flying the people ducked because they thought the birds would fly into them. But the birds are expert flyers and very precise. Often they act as if they are going to fly right at me and then turn off, and then other times they wiz by my head. I love to watch them fly! They also love to run around on the carpet. My dog is fine with them; I think she loves them now. We are a family.

Ziggy sounds like a little character! lol. Oliver was a special little guy, wasn't he? Reminds me of one of my birds that is gone named Lenny. He was the best.

Here is another picture of Danny and Bailee:

Glad you got that job done. I hate cleaning the whole cage also. My bird is out almost all day. He sits on my shoulder the entire time . I have a small old towel that I put on because he poops constantly. When he is out I put the whole cage in the bathtub, spray it and let it soak a few hours. Then most of the gunk rinses away. The rest I get with an old brush. I don't know what makes that poop so hard!! They need to bottle it and sell it. Probably would work better than Super Glue.

We have stuffed Taco Bell chihuahuas on a shelf, no cleaning needed. We got them back when we had a real chihuahua.

My little ones make tiny poopies but they get real hard too. I used a metal scrubby thing to clean it all off and threw that thing away. My birds are out all day, too. Often they are up late too, like me. Your bird is pretty!

What a cute pair! :D
Thank you! :)

Congratulations. Nothing is as rewarding as a job well one. :)
Thank you!
