Wrongly accused

Not sure if this is for this site but i am really troubled by my current situation. I have been interviewed by the police regarding a mini cab fare that was not paid of £146 pounds which was a ride that took 5 odd hours around London stopping off at various iconic locations ( oxford street, Shaftesbury avenue, clapham junction) .

The reason my name comes to light is when i was fifteen i used an alias name which has been given by the person who booked the mini cab. After the police exhausting investigations they contact me for an interview based on that alias some 30 years ago.

After the interview which they are asking me questions of were i was on a certain day 4 months ago which you can imagine is difficult to remember. Anyway to cut a long story short they ask me if i am willing to attend an I D parade which i did and 6 weeks later to my surprise was picked out by the mini cab driver.

I am now in court and i could of pleaded guilty to this in a magistrates court and got a community based penalty but i elected to go to the crown court because I'm innocent. I have done extensive research into the locations the mini cab goes to asking for CCTV from various shops but they only keep that material for 30 days so i was never gonna be able to defend myself because i was arrested 3 months after the crime.

I have tried to get my text messages from 02 on that particular day so it will rejig my memory as to were i was because i was certainly not in a mini cab driving around london. I have also asked 02 for phone mapping so it will pin point were i was on that day and time to the nearest mast which in most cases is 100-400 metres away.

Problem i have is 02 or any phone company don't store your text messages so i have been told and i have to go through the 02 police liaison to try and get phone mapping that costs thousands of pounds and is usually only used in high end cases such as conspiracies and murder.

The prosecution say the are relying on identification and my alias of 30 years ago as sufficient to get a conviction. I am awaiting trial in march next year and I'm so pissed off by this as i have not done it.

Through my experience i now know as a member of the public i am not entitled to be given CCTV from the streets etc and it can only be given to the police or the council and i can't even get my text messages from 02. Lets flip the coin and if a terrorist was in these locations a year down the line or a murder had taken place this CCTV and text messages would be available.

First of all this is probably not the right forum for this question...however...I'm trying to make sense of this. You gave an alias 30 years ago...so how did they know this Alias name was connected with you?...and btw £146 for 5 hours in a mini cab in London is Cheap...this sounds like a keystone cops story from the 70;s...sorry don't mean to make light of it if you're serious...but the Met police hunting down an unpaid taxi fare of £146 after 4 months and a cab driver having to pick you out in a line-up?..I'm struggling with this

Hello Doctor123, and welcome to the forum. I don't think it's fare! .... that the meter is still running!:eek:nthego:

Law enforcement convolution which evinces solution of crime, but at minimal risk to the professionals, themselves! imp

Since 1980 I have taken a calendar or appointment book and written down where I was or what I did every single day. There have been a few days here and there I forgot to write in it and it's almost impossible to go backwards and remember what you did on a certain day. For me, that's even if that day was yesterday. Just 2 sentences a day can be enough if you aren't much of a writer. I suggest it for everyone. I wish I had started doing that when I first learned to write in the 50s.

Dr123, I hope you answer Hollydolly's questions as I would like to hear the answers too. Being wrongly accused is a horrible thing.

Linda I do that....every day!! I do it as a kind of potted history for my family when I leave this world..if they're ever interested of course

I was prompted into doing it after I read the Mass Observation diaries which were written by a bunch of ordinary people during the 30's and 40's.. about their day to day lives during WW2...and ultimately the diaries proved to be of such interest they were published and have become best sellers and a fascinating insight into how people lived , worked, their thoughts and struggles , and just, well... ..ordinary lives while all around them the war raged on..

Well I'm quite surprised at some of the witty comments but I am deadly serious about this . Dolly the reason this alias I gave comes back to me is when ever someone is arrested and gave a dodgy name they leave it in record that I have that name so it is a known alias of mine . This is more about the taxi driver pressing charges to get compensation but with the help of the police . I have been in to all the shops this guy who was in the mini cab went to and not one of them can let me see CCTV let alone if they still got it . Someone commented about its not for this site its for your legal team and yes I know that but awaiting legal aid . My trial is for March next year in Kingston crown court . What stands out for me is even if you are picked out on an I D parade the picker can be mistaken . In these circstamces it took him to whittle down 9 people to three before he selected me so about 6 or 7 looks of omitting individuals from the digital line up . I'm just so pissed off with it and I hope when he sees me in court he says that's not him and I know you will say that he picked you out on an I D but that was a facial shot from a digital camera .

I'm sorry this is happening to you you but if you want help from us you'll have to be straight with us.

Why did you make up an alias name?

If you're a Doctor then why are you awaiting legal aid?

How can your cops be so inept as to wait 4 months to have the cab driver make an identification when they know memory fades over time? My daughter was wronged and the cop had her identify the suspect the very next day!

How can a court use a 4 month old parade identification (we call it a line-up here) and a 30 yr old alias as proof of guilt??? They can't. There must be more to this story.

Like Holly asked, why doesn't the mini cab fare amount match the going rate for 5 hours in London?

Like other members asked, why didn't you fill out a profile here so we can better help you…too many unanswered questions.

I don't know if you have a Small Claims Court there but why are the police so involved in this unpaid cab fare?

Do you have a job where you would have been at work at that time on that day?

Do you have family or friends that can attest to your character or attest to where you were that day?

Are you on questionable meds that would have fogged your memory of being there?

Kingston Crown court ???????..now I know this is a wind-up...you don't go to crown court for an unpaid cab fare, this would be dealt at very worst in the magistrates court....as lara says..there's much more to this story than you're telling us if indeed it's not totally invented..!!

For any of our members who don't know the difference between the 2 types of justice courts..here's a link?
