I hear Yanny on the first video, but the second one, I hear Laurel when he hears Yanny (second segment, preceded by the ear shattering squeal). Strange because the doctor just told me I have more difficulty hearing higher pitches.

Oops. I didn't notice the poll. Just voted.
I wonder why people would hear differently?
There must be some explanation.

Am I the only one that hears Mary, with the first video? With the second video I heard Yanny and Laurel at the appropriate times. His explanation of why was interesting. So true, for with hearing loss I notice what I can hear is dependent on the pitch of voices.

[h=1]We Made a Tool So You Can
Hear Both Yanny and Laurel[/h] By JOSH KATZ, JONATHAN CORUM and JON HUANG MAY 16, 2018

The internet erupted in disagreement on Tuesday over an audio clip in which the name being said depends on the listener. Some hear “Laurel.” Others hear “Yanny.”

We built a tool to gradually accentuate different frequencies in the original audio clip. Which word or name do you hear, and how far do you have to move the slider to hear the other? (The slider’s center point represents the original recording.)

Okay, now I get it and I can hear the two words on that player as I move the marker. However, I still don't actually hear "yanny". I hear "yammy".
