I have to mention the National Park Service and Mammoth Campground. The camp has about 6 restrooms spread out through the camp of about 100 sites, but only 1 restroom was open!!! It was an 8 minute, not flat, walk to the rest room and you guessed it was uphill both ways! The road went down a draw(valley) and then up the other side so it truly was uphill both ways.

For those campers that aren't equipped to contain waste water this should have meant carrying the dish washing water to the restroom for disposal. The restrooms are connected to a proper sewer system connected to the nearby employee housing Only my wife would walk that far carrying a bucket of dirty water (and the only one I saw) so you know that the wash water along w a lot of urine was being deposited in the camp.

Yet the bathroom including the one directly across from out site had a parade of NPS employees and contractors checking on the bath room since the heat was running and lights were on because they should have been open!!! Keep in mind this is an active wildlife corridor including grizzly and black bears, wolves, bison, etc in the camp ground yet the NPS insures folks go out and mix it up w the animals to get to the bath room after dark. 99.9% don't have bear spray (or a firearm(y))w them. And the web page makes no note of the current lack of facilities, which I'm sure is a hardship and reason to not be able to stay there for some.

FYI it's $25 w flush toilets (no showers), and potable water is available and 50% off w the lifetime senior pass discount. The camp site has a bear box for food storage, a picnic table, and fire ring.
