Yesterday Was My Retire-Versary...24 Years!

I was off by a year, I was saying January 23rd would be my 23rd year in retirement! How time has flown. I came out 13 months earlier than I'd originally planned. My last day of working was one month before my 51st birthday. The official retirement date was Feb 1st but I had vacation time, so I took that to finish out the month. Blessedly, my pension was based on age 51. Full retirement was 55 then, so I lost 4% for each year before that age. I had health issues at the time and my mother was aging so it was the right time. I actually couldn't wait to retire and I've never regretted retiring so early. I had posted this on Facebook in 2018.

Wow, you are so lucky! I waited to retire until my company eliminated my position at 62 due to Covid. I wish I'd had all those years to be un-stressed and just look after me. I know from other threads that you have invested wisely so I know you are okay financially. I also know that you have been through a lot lately so I hope you will get through it all and come out all the much better on the other side. Happy Retirement Anniversary!

Well played! Hope you've made good use of that special time. Most of us the rest of we peons had to wait till 65. At least my body arrived well packaged for fun as long as someone daily plugs me into a USB charging port.

David, my son, husband and mother used to tease me saying I was busier in retirement than I was when I was working. But I had intermittent bouts with a heart condition (atrial fibrillation). The episodes made me quite sick, sometimes for a couple of weeks at a time. I was a busy bee when well though. When I wasn't sick, I was taxi-ing, either my mother to her various appointments and shopping or my grandchildren, sometimes my husband and step children if my husband's car was in the shop. Thankfully the A-fib was finally corrected in 2016.

I was finally able to settle down a bit and my husband and I as well as my sister and I started traveling more after my mother passed. My husband and I did go to Mexico before she died though. We took road trips to Baltimore (step sons lived there) and South Carolina because we both have cousins there. We took advantage of timeshare ownership starting in 2008 by which we could stay at various locations real inexpensively. So yes, I think I made good use of the time.

I hope you keep getting plugged in so you will have enough energy to completely enjoy your retirement. :D
