I'm on a discussion group like this and the usual subject of surviving on SS alone came up. One poster (whose 45) posted regarding my assertion that "Not every parent was a financial brain. Many didn't understand investing as it was hand to mouth living"

Then he responds "Well, you could have googled it".

I responded "Google didn't exist in 1980" (Started in 1997 actually)

Obviously he was born 1978. So by 20, he knew of it, funny how he's thinking "Oh, you could have looked it up on computers!" Not realizing we didn't have personal computers, smart phones or online learning.

Hell, it wasn't till 1996 I even had a computer and 24 more years till a smart phone. These kids

There are a lot of things the younger generation could teach us.....and a lot of things we can teach them.

Sometimes it seems like younger people don't have a clue as to how much "more" they have now vs what we had (or didn't) then. They can't appreciate what they take for granted.

In some ways, they are very fortunate...in others, they have missed out. It's sad, actually.

It is very easy to be flippant when on a forum. He would of been out of smacking range before he said that in person. I can relate to what you experienced growing up and how you came to the “money game” late in life. I just got lucky.

although google is the bmoc and currently the most powerful it was not the first search engine, also it runs mostly on the WEB. but the internet is not THE WEB. the web runs on the internet which is made up of different systems. in the early days the search engines were the like of lycos, webcrawler and textual archie, jughead. all came about in the late 1980's to early 1990's.
