"You don't need much to make a happy life?" How do you feel about this?

I think happiness and what an individual needs to achieve it is subjective. I'm a high maintenance woman and don't apologize for the fact that it takes more than average for me to be happy. How about you? What are your thoughts on the subject?

What it takes to make me happy is *enough* ... not too much because material things mean nothing at all in the long run... and not too little because having too little is heartbreaking. But having "just enough" is perfect.

That fits for me. So long as you have enough and recognize it, more matters very little. If you’re bored you may be pursuing the wrong things.

As I aged, I don't need or want much - any "extra's" add to the clutter.

My daughter commented that I always wear the same clothes. Not true - the last few years, it is only red or grey t-shirts and jackets, jeans, black sox, black walking shoes. Haven't bought woolen sweaters for a few years - they seem to last "forever".

I veer between the 2 sides of the bed... I'm pretty high maintenence when it comes to me paying for things for me... but if someone else is paying then I keep it as simple and as inexpensive as possible..

I agree that you don't need much. I'm a low maintenance woman and I don't apologize for that fact. I can be happy with a simple life, loving husband and pets, access to nature and her beauty. I've never depended on material things to define me, I'd cheapen myself if I had.

Many can be happy in life by cherishing it, and having love and empathy for others. Selflessness is rewarding, the beauty shows through to all beings. I appreciate each moment here on earth, and am happy to be alive and not always wanting for more.

Interesting thought. I think I'm bored because some of what I need (or think I need) is just not available to me.

Satisfying human interaction: After a lot of effort, I manage to get this for one or two hours a week. I need way more than that.

A "relationship": Not happening, for physical reasons and other reasons.

Entertainment: All I have is YouTube on my smartphone. I'd like to sit back and comfortably watch TV or Netflix on a decent sized screen. But I can't afford satellite or cable (or a TV).

Travel: Going anywhere would wipe out my savings. Is it worth it?

I don't need fashion or fine dining or nice furniture. I'm grateful to have a car (and a balcony!). Occasionally I spend $100 on thingamajig. But it would be nice to do something without worrying or struggling, or having to accept that it's not ever going to happen.

We do have cable TV in the bedroom, but in the kitchen and living room we have small TVs with rabbit ear antennas.

You can get in a lot of channels for free if you click around. I don't watch anything on my cell phone, that would drive me crazy.

You should try a small TV, nothing like relaxing at home and not having to hold a device in your hand. Good luck....hugs.

Thank you, SeaBreeze. I live in an isolated area, and there is no local broadcasting tower. I checked. So no rabbit ear TV.

Yeah I wouldn't say boredom is a factor if you just don't have enough of what you need. I don't think you can change what you need based on limiting what you want. You need what you need.

I mostly just get that at home with my wife. If we weren't looking out to keep her infection free, I'd spend more time with other people. It isn't great but is still better than if I didn't have the relationship. No doubt.

At some point I'm not sure we need a couple-relationship after a long term relationship ends. I wouldn't automatically seek it out if I become a widower. Will have to play that by ear if it comes up.

Yeah that would be better. I'm contemplating getting a large flat screen tv soon. I'm hoping to mount it in my room in so it can swivel out into comfortable position to watch or fold flat against a bookcase out of the way. My old fashioned, heavy sehott is so screwed up that when I watch basketball a long shot seems to fly like a rollercoaster, making dips.

I do miss some travel but never wanted a lot of it. I like being home with the dogs and the garden.

It sure sounds to me like you're not getting enough of what you need but I'm not what you can do about that. I hope something comes up for you.
