You get to live your life over again

I would have loved to have started learning a musical instrument at a very young age. Spent 5 years "fiddling around" with a fiddle (violin) before I finally gave up. Now, it's that Epiphone guitar for me. Love playing & singing those old songs. Anyone here for "Don't Take Your Guns To Town" by Johnny Cash, "Jambalaya" by Hank Williams or even "Dark Moon" by Gale Storm? It seems that singing & playing away brings me back to a better part of my life when things were young & fresh. Boy, did we have fun. Now, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell & even Merle Haggard & Waylon Jennings are gone. Now, what has replaced them, I'd rather not say and with Cor-19 things "ain't the way they used to be". Of course, nothing is. Life is just more complex & rougher. Music takes me back to better time for me. Less technology, less people but more fun, more freedom. Just can't imagine the future in 20 years. Nope, I wouldn't be here.
John.....I played fiddle for about 14 years. I picked it back up a few years ago after it was sitting for about 40 years. I could hardly play the major scale. My dad, OTOH, was a very good fiddle player, along with harmonica, piano, banjo and some guitar.

You know what the difference is between a violin and a fiddle?

It’s OK to spill beer on a fiddle.

My husband always wanted to play the violin, so, he joined an amateur group led by a violinist, called The Niagara Strings .. and learned to play in his 30's. They would play in the Kiwanis Festival, and go to senior's homes. I say, if you want to play an instrument, go ahead and try to learn, no matter what your age is.

Playing the violin, well, fiddle to me, really isn’t all that difficult to learn. One thing I learned early when trying to play my fiddle, you have to be patient, but once you learn a few songs, it gets easier.

Are there any YouTube videos of the Niagara Strings? I wish YouTube would have been around when my dad was alive.

I don't know .. never looked, but I will now. Back then, people weren't that into videotaping. My Dad would have loved YouTube as well.

@oldman .. I couldn't find any videos of The Niagara Strings amateur orchestra. They must have disbanded years ago. There is now the (Ontario) Peninsula Orchestra, which appears to be amateurs and possibly non-amateur musicians. They play concerts for senior homes too.

I was lucky...I found my husband at 16 years old in High School...Married at 20 yrs. old and have a son and daughter
which they have 2 kids each....And they are married....Our first grandson will be married in August...God willing
