You might want to check your credit card charges . . .

My wife was checking our credit card charges in order to pay the bill. On the previous day there was a $400 charge for a cocktail mixing machine with the charge then being credited back. But there was also a $380 airline ticket that was not credited back, made the same day. Both were not purchase we made! So we are getting a new card sent out. The ticket was reported as fraudulent.

I recently had someone in Daytona Beach buy $2000 in auto accessories. Got a new card, had yo memorize the 16 digit number. The biggest was changing all the autopay accounts. I now have a spreadsheet that lists all the accounts that have autopay.

In addition to the physical cards w numbers my card offers additional numbers w/out cards to use for online and autopay so updating isn't necessary if the physical card is lost, stolen, or corrupted. Perhaps yours does too.

The last time this happened to me my card number was used at a coffee shop for a small purchase first. Then it was used at a store in the same city to buy several hundred dollars worth of liquor. At that point the credit card company found the purchases out of the ordinary for my account and put a hold on the card.

I was told it is common for CC thieves to make a purchase under $10 first to see if the card is valid. Then they go for something bigger.

This seems like a very good idea. I'll check that out. Thanks!

That is great that she is cautious. I try to do that but I get confused by some legitimate charges, I had a ten dollar charge that baffled me for a while until I figured out it was from a car wash I'd driven through, they sure didn't have an obvious name.

I have my credit cards and my bank accounts set up to notify me of even fairly small money charges. Lots of times I get a text notification on my phone at the store before they've even had time to hand me the receipt. But other times it takes rather a long time to be notified.

This week I got notifications from Fidelity that money had been put in my account, and then I got notified that money was taken out of my account, it was a little alarming but after I logged in it was okay, it was just a distribution I'd set up to happen from my IRA. Another retirement learning experience.

That’s a really good idea.

My card sends a notification anytime the card is used. It’s almost immediate. I can feel it on my watch too.
We get that. My husband will ask, "Did you buy something for such such and such?" and I say "Yes Big Brother" in a robot voice. Running joke.
