So, I mentioned yesterday I took a friend from out of town to the Sixth Floor and Holocaust Museums. I parked in a gated parking garage with clear signs that said "parking". There was a machine to put a credit card in to open the gate. It was one of the steel mesh gates that rolls up and down. There was also a message that indicated the same credit card would be needed to get back into the parking garage. Can you tell where this going?
So, the gate opened and we parked. We walked down the stairs through a steel door and visited the museums. When we were finished, we came back to the garage and no matter how many times I put in my credit card the door wouldn't open. My friend called the phone number on the machine and received voice mail. No one ever called us back. Two women from out of town then arrived to retrieve their car and their credit card wouldn't work either. One of them tried to roll under the iron gate but there wasn't enough room! A man then came up to retrieve his car, and again... no luck. He called Dallas Parking but received no response.
So, finally we called 911, told them it wasn't an emergency but we were locked out of the parking garage. They transferred us to the fire department. The 5 of us stood outside the garage as we watched a fire truck with sirens and lights blazing pull up to the parking garage! My friend took a video because it was so hard to believe. We shared the issue and one of the firefighters took out some type of tool and unlocked the door for us.
I was stressed at the time, but later we just laughed hysterically about it. My friend gets into all kinds of crazy "situations", so she said it was probably because I was with her.
I do think the garage should be shut down. One of the women did file a complaint. I guess there is a first time for everything!
