Young Senior living in Kingston, Ontario wanting to meet other local Kingstonians

Hello, I am finding this holiday season very difficult. I have a wonderful loving husband and two young children (very young, I had children in my 40's) who are fantastic but I miss having friends. My husband is in the military and we have moved a few times over the years, and as I'm getting older I find it frustrating to have to "start over again" every time. This time we are in Kingston for good - it's our "forever" home, so I want to invest time into meeting some really great friends. I'm finding it tough with the winter weather to get out and about much. I do drive but it's still a pain. Plus finding things to do during the day is though - there is a seniors centre I joined just before the holidays, but the courses aren't cheap so I think I will only be signing up for one thing in the new year. I plan to volunteer there so hopefully I can meet people that way, but I am a bit anxious because I find I'm not as warm and friendly as I used to be in my younger years.

I feel silly saying this, but I need to learn how to make friends again. When I'm around others I can be quiet and almost a bit of a cold fish. It's not intentional but it doesn't help me make friends.

I joined this senior forums in hopes to get advise how to get out and meet people (must be during the day while the kids are in school) without it costing much money. I don't work and no pension so money is pretty tight for us.
