Your Experience With Capsaicin

This topical analgesic derived from the ingredient that makes hot peppers hot has not helped my elbow issue after two weeks of use. Reports say that it can take up to two months before relief is realized so there's still hope. It needs to build up. Apparently it blocks neurons at the site of damage from sending pain signals to the brain.

Any of you guys use this stuff? If so, pls. describe your experiences.

I love the stuff. Use lots of it when in a fibromyalgia flare. My FM pain pattern is feet, calves, hands, forearms, neck, lower back and bladder. Obviously can't use it on all those places ...certainly not on hands because it's awful when if you get it in your eyes or mouth.

Be careful about using it on your feet because when you put on shoes and your feet heat up, it really really burns. I actually want that burn and use that to my advantage with FM. Will rub it on my feet and calves, then put on socks and wrap my legs with ace bandages before getting into bed. Also use a heating pad that has a low setting to make it more pronounced on my lower back. Yes, it burns, but it does divert from the FM pain temporarily and FM pain is so bad that you'll do just about anything to lessen it when you can.

As much as I use, I don't think cumulative use leads to permanent pain relief. At least it hasn't for me.

Do you know what's causing your elbow pain? I'm guessing if there's something structurally wrong with it that you're not going to get anything but temporary relief with capsaisin.

Quite a few years ago when my knee arthritis was doing serious flare ups (later successfully replaced) I tried it on the knee & itt burned so badly to the skin I had to work hard to get it all scrubbed off. Not a fan obviously.
