Your Favorite Indulgences

If money were no object, even with money being budgeted...what are some guilty pleasures you can justify spending on? For me it's books and fragrance. I can be down to my last ten dollars and if I see a book I need to have I will find a way to acquire it. If suddenly I was financially secure for life I'd be spending maybe $200 a month just on reading material.

The sneakers can be deep discount and I rarely buy clothes. When I do they are sale and will last for several years...ditto makeup and everything else. Except perfume, I have everything from Love's to Chanel. A different scent every day. I wouldn't go nutty on the really pricey brands but I have a lovely collection.

How about you? What do you NEED to have?

My two needs/addictions/would die without.... strong black coffee and golf. As it is... have a Keurig. Don't spend the money on the expensive pods. Buy dark roast when on sale and put it in the freezer. Have the little filter thingy that I just put ground coffee in and brew through the Keurig.
Golf... Have membership at a local club which is very reasonable. Wife has annual membership budgeted into our expense items once we retire. Buddy and I own our own golf cart so shouldn't have any cart rental expense.

When... WHEN I win the lottery, I'll drink nothing but the finest coffee. May grind my own beans. And, will take golf vacations to play a few drop-dead-gorgeous courses that are on my bucket list.

I need travel, books, lenses for my camera, a good phone. If we win the lottery we'll travel even more but never again fly in economy class.

Hmmm, this takes some thought. At one time, it was mechanics' tools. Unusual and rare firearms (surprised?), really good-tasting baked goods, like my Grandma and Mother made, European-style.

Nowadays, I guess I would settle for German beer! Only four ingredients, yum! im

Well, if we're talking brews, I need IPAs.

Oh I would also add pedicures. If I could I would go once a week. There is this young man I discovered at my usual nail place. Oh my word he made me so relaxed I tipped him ten bucks. He really took the time to massage the hurting places, then hot stones, then lotion, then warm towels. You're younger than my kids but would you marry me?;)

Well... you SAID "indulgences" and nothing is more indulgent than diamonds.. I LOVE diamonds..

Hope you and my bride never meet!!! If you do, it'll cost someone some change! She loves her jewelry. Diamonds, amethyst, "bling". She is a really frugal lady. Watches utility bills, etc. Turn her loose in a jewelry store.... Watch out!!!!!

Fresh ground coffee every morning, which I have now, books, books, books, I can't think of too much else. I guess I would like a house keeper. If I won the lottery, I'd hire a housekeeper before I even got a chance to buy a new house. :) I like pedicures too. I'd buy one of those great massage chairs with the foot bath my pedicurist has.

Don't NEED, but my favorite indulgence would be an all day spa pampering.... the whole works...:)

I'm with you Bonnie, never been to an all day spa yet. What would be great is a monthly massage for sure, the few I've had were very relaxing and helped with tight muscles, facials are nice too.

Good gin, good food, good chess...

I know you're very fussy about your brand of gin, but I've read a few reviews here of the different gins and the consensus is the best gin is one of the store brand gins. Haven't tried it yet as I'm brand faithful, but I will.

I used to get a massage every other week but haven't for a long time. If I won the lottery I'd have someone come to my house every day to give me a massage. The full massages in Thailand are far too rough, so I'll stick with foot and calf massages.

In no particular order.

1. Buy a piece of land large enough to where I could construct a home with a 500 yd. private gun range that would be accessible from my patio deck.

2. Buy some more guns that I don't really need.

3. Buy mama a few more diamonds and whatever else her little heart desired.

And back to one of my favorite indulgences, gin, for a moment, it is the botanicals which give good gin a unique taste. Store brands don't use botanicals in order to keep the cost down...

I'm pretty frugal, except when I travel, I indulge in good restaurants, shopping and pampering myself...that's part of looking forward to a trip.

I'll give this on a try next time:
Morrisons’ London Dry Gin (£10.49 for a 70cl litre bottle) was the biggest hit with the experts, coming top of the taste test with a score of 80%. Experts agreed that it was “well-rounded” and “refreshing” and hailed it for its “nice balance of sweeter notes with spice, pine and juniper”.

I haven't seen it here, but I will mention to the store manager the next time I go out for gin, which will be tomorrow...

My thinking exactly! I love to travel. Have been to Europe, Mexico, Canada and would love to explore New Zealand and Australia and probably China -- if and when the budget allows.

Air travel these days is The Pits!! Hate it!! Would maybe fly within the U.S. once again IF I could fly first class and maybe not even then what with the long lines and pat-downs.

I travel via AmTrak these days and get a nice compartment. May take a bit longer, but the service and the food are excellent. :)

Can't say I'm fond of air travel, but I travel on 5 continents, and I've got the packing, security, immigration, airport routines down to a fine art!
