Your Writing Pen

I LOVE a GOOD writing pen.. I collect pens. If I visit an office and there are a display of pens, I ask if I can take one. @Gary O' I see you are a pen Whore.. I would say I am a pen Prostitute but I get my pens for free.

When I was around 10, my buddy and me started our pen collections
We each had an oatmeal box
Filled
Mostly fountain pens
We'd trade
Had our favorites
Sometimes ten crappy ones for one really really cool fountain pen
'Twas a fun competition

A few years back, somebody handed me wunna those write upside-down pens
I immediately searched out my childhood buddy
He'd passed

Guess I won

Ahhh.... pens! You people know your subjects!

I had been on a quest for the majority of my life to find the perfect pen. I have a bookcase of journals going back to 1974, drawings as early as 1964, like this one:

In my life long search for the perfect pen, I have found the Pilot G-2's are the best universal pens- 07 for work, 10 for drawing.

But the best in the world Art Pen comes from jolly ol' Great Britain: The Rotring Lettering B. A tactile pleasure!

Again: Ahhhh, pens!

If I have to scribble a note, I grab whatever pen is handy. My wife has a variety of them, and I steal from her. But, this last year, on a whim, I bought a cheap Chinese fountain pen on Ebay. I loved the way it feels and writes. Now I have an assortment of 6. None cost more than $2.50. The one I use the most, I won with a 21 cent bid. Unfortunately, my handwriting still sucks no matter what I write with.

My mom bought me a very expensive fountain pen when I graduated from college the first time. Unfortunately, the pen was stolen (long story). That pen had a lot of sentimental value.

This is kind of weird. Years ago, I collected matches with the hotel, restaurant, bar’s name on them and pens with the same. I never counted either one, but if I had to guess, I would say that I had at least over 2500 books of matches and probably over a 1000 pens. All different.

Today, it’s just reversed. More businesses give out pens than they do matches, but my collecting days are over.

I use gimmie pens that I get for free. Mostly from my Credit Union and from my dentist. I write few checks anymore so the pens often dry up before I use them much. For my run-of-the-mill jotting around the estate, I prefer a well sharpened #2 pencil. For letters to my Congresscritter, a large black crayon seems to do the job.

With my horrible spelling - a pencil is my best bet - at least until "they" come out with a pen with spell checker.

Truly, I use digital means of writing and drawing - very seldom do I pick up a pen or pencil.

My pens are Micron in different thicknesses. Ya know,I kinda miss recieving actual letters in the mail. You can tell a lot about a person from their handwriting.

You would be dismayed by my handwriting. When we want something to look nice, the task goes to my wife, mine looks like I am still in the third grade. I suppose that all those years of writing technical reports in print has lead to this, and the fact that most engineers have sorry looking script ( probably some kind of genetic defect).
I once worked for an Admiral who had beautiful handwriting and he liked to send out nice thank you notes which became virtual collector's items among his many admirer's. … but don't talk to him about system engineering, and no math or science. We loved working for him anyway, and oddly enough he had a clear understanding of the big picture.

A classmate in high school said bad handwriting is a good thing because you'll be mistaken for a doctor.. these days, you'd probably be mistaken for a Gen-X who grew up on computers and never picked up a pen :p
