(CNN)Videos on YouTube will now default to standard definition for all users worldwide, a step down from the typical high definition that users normally see.
The move is aimed at easing the burden on internet infrastructure as lockdowns and other emergency policies have kept millions at home.
The global change, which was announced and began rolling out on Tuesday, is expected to last for approximately 30 days as millions of people around the globe stay home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

I haven't noticed a diff in youtube quality yet, but watch CNN through my cable provider online.

Netflix made a similar announcement a few days ago. While they still seem to be streaming HD, they, and most other streaming services may have to reduce their definition in coming days/weeks, as more people are having to work online from home. Those most likely to notice any difference are those whose provider supplies speeds of less than 25Mbps. Our provider has boosted our service from 100Mb to 200Mb, temporarily, at no extra charge, in anticipation of increased demand.

If you want to see how your service is holding up, go to SpeedTest.net, and you can check your speed in seconds, for free.

My parents have YouTube TV. Mom said that they were having trouble with it today. I think I'm gonna try to spend less time there so that maybe someone else can get on there. I basically grab a few videos for the page I'm working on and then spend the rest of the time writing so, I can live without it.
