What's a noise in the house that can keep you up when youre trying to sleep?

The only thing that I can think of is the chirping of the smoke detector when the battery goes dead.

I do use a fan at night to circulate the air and provide a sort of white noise that blocks out the sounds of the city.

Any noise.. I'm blessed with super hearing, but sometimes it can be a PITA because I can hear things no-one else can, so even the slightest noise will wake me or keep me awake...

When I'm in for the night, it must be quiet.
If I'm just taking a nap, jazz turned low is okay.

Dripping faucet drives me NUTS.

Smoke alarm will get me up, thank goodness!

OMG! Me too Hollydolly. It used to amaze my husband. He used to get phone calls sometimes late at night or very early in the morning. He was transportation for his son and/or friends who wanted a ride to the masjid to make prayer before sunrise. His brother, who became a widower only 3 months after he and his wife moved to Atlanta to live with one of their daughters, would call him sometimes at midnight. His oldest sister told me that his brother would call her at 11:00 p.m. so apparently he'd call my husband after he spoke with her. His daughter who lives on the west coast would also call late sometimes (it wasn't "late" where she is) and they could talk for hours. It made me crazy because even though I'd be trying to sleep in another room, I could hear their conversations!

Nothing

not even a bear on the porch during a full moon

so, my lady gives me a shot in the ribs to join her in her paranoia

Noises I can hear outside close to the house. Then I have to get up, check out the situation, get a glass of water, go to the bathroom, double check all the doors again, then, on my way back to bed look out the windows again.

Very quiet where we live, and it's rare that a sound will keep me from falling asleep. If our dog barks in the night, I get up and check things out.

Like Seeker, I do love the sound of a good thunderstorm, but they're rare here in northern New England.

The one noise that drives me nuts is a car alarm going off in the driveway next to our apt building
I'm annoyed the owner of the car doesn't heard it or do something to shut it up Sue
