I made Split Pea soup this morning

So simple.
Diced 2 large onions. Fried in olive oil until softened.
Added 2 cups of rinsed split peas,5 cups of water, dash of salt. 1 cup of peanuts.
Brought to the boil then simmered for 20 minutes.
Pureed then added pepper to taste.
Rather delicious.

Are peanuts a typical ingredient? We always use a smoked ham hock, ham bone, or smoked turkey leg, and any meat from same.

Not typical. I always look at what I have that can enhance the dish.
Not using ham/meat speeds up the process and saves on washing up.
The whole dish was complete in 30 minutes.

Lil Johnny loves peas but is having health issues.
He goes to the doc and after the exam Doc asks,
"Lil Johnny what do you usuall eat for your diet?"
Lil Johnny says, "I love Peas? Eat peas every day."
"Lil Johnny You have to give up on the peas and
eat a balanced diet."

Johnny goes for many man years and one evening in
a Bar he is doing Pitchers of beers with the 12 or so pole
dancers / wet tee shirt girls.

Wow that soup sounds great! I only make pea soup if I have leftover ham. I put carrots, celery, and onions in it and I add some chicken broth to it.
I used to buy "Grandma's pea soup" and also "Grandma's bean soup" in a can-and it was really good but I guess they don't make it anymore- it isn't even at amazon.

Interesting recipe, @Bretrick! I usually put chopped tomatoes and a little tomato sauce in my split pea soup to give it an edge.
