Anything to do with Motorcycles.

Electric bikes are causing a big stink around here. Lots of kids are riding them to school. According to conventional wisdom if pedals are included it is a true electric bicycle, but without pedals it‘s a motorcycle. Motorcycles require a drivers license. So more and more eyes are examining these machines. More regulations are appearing, and others are just around the corner.

I saw where someone started a thread on wating to buy a vintage car. It got me to thinking about wanting a vinatge motorcycle. So I started looking on facebook market place and found these two. The first is a 1965 Triumph Bonneville. That was the bike to have back in the day and 1965 is the year I graduated from High School which would make it kind of special for me.

The second is a 1965 Honda Super Hawk. Again the year I graduated from High School. It was a 1966 Honda Super Hawk that the guy who wrote "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" rode.

Either one of them would be really cool to have a second bike.

My main hurdle will be getting my wife used to the idea of me having two motorcycles. That's going to be a tough one.

Almost had a bad accident..so I sold it.

For many years they were a big part of my life.

I'm in my 7th decade as a motorcycle rider, I ride as often as I can. It might be a part of the reason I'm still working, ride to work and work to ride.
With my arthritic hands and limited skills I don't even adjust my chain anymore, luckily I have a great rapport with a fantastic workshop. My '86 FXR is nearly recommissioned.

EDIT, Today is not a photo posting day, it's weird that I have been able to post a few recently.😏

I've had a bunch of bikes over the years. If I had to pick 1 that I'd like to own again it would be my 2nd bike: 1970 Triumph Daytona 500 Twin. Would suit me better now for around town riding than my current ride.

Current bike: 2004 Kawasaki Z1000.

A little heavy & I don't need the in-line 4; 1000cc power for the kind of riding I do these days. Probably sell it soon. It's in mint condition for a 2004. Hard to believe it's 20 years old 😲

No longer own a motorcycle. Not of my choosing - Sharon says I'm too old. My retort, "I'm only going to restore it, not ride it." (Yeah, right).

Still a card-carrying member of AMA and continue to retain 'MC' (motorcycle authorized) on my driver license. Once it's in your blood, it's there forever.

Nice bikes, guys. All of them.

My rides through the ages: Triumph Tiger Cub 200cc, Harley-Davidson 175cc Scat, Honda 125cc Benley Super Sport, Ducati 250cc short track conversion, Yamaha 200cc TW200, and Suzuki 350cc off-road conversion to dual sport. Oh, and throw in there a Triumph 650cc 40cu. in. drag bike build. One of my many regrets not finishing that.

Did you race short track with that 250 Duc?
I still go down to the races a couple times a year in a town just south of where I live. Fun stuff but oh my ... the dirt in the air; gotta wear a mask some nights if the winds blowing toward the stands. Those guys ride without fear (or brakes). They often feature some speedway bike races. You can always tell even without looking. The smell of methanol fills the air ;)

I've been looking for a 1965 Superhawk for the last year as a project bike. Hard to find one in just so so condition, they're either been sitting outside junk or already restored.

@MrPants #13

Short tracked the Duc for two events. OHC engine put the CG up too high. Struggle to lay the bike over; then when straightening after the turn, she came up on me. Tossed me over the bars once. Once was enough. Retired her straightaway and sold her off. Thinking back now, must have bought it just because the engine was such a work of art. That and the steel blue frame really put the hook in me to buy.

Speedway is definitely a trip. Always a favorite of mine to watch. Have some YouTube vids saved and never tire of re-watching them. Speedway's kinda fallen off here in the states. Last I looked 2020 - 2021 even California was having difficulty making a class. And AMA dropped Speedway off their racing calendar. Too bad. Cheers. -Arnold

You had a Ducati💕 Nice

I broke my Femur back in 97 and had the metal rod placed. I decided Bike riding was out for me after that. Gave it up and sold it in 2001. I haven't ruled out 4X4 or a 3 wheeler touring bike though. Now its UTV's in state parks and back trails thru my timber land.. It's about the spider mites in July / August now. Haha I had HD, Honda, Kawa's and Yamaha. Lots of fun Weekends.

Yesterday I looked at a 2014 Honda CB 1100. It's for sale in Ocean Springs Mississippi which is a little over 50 miles west of me. So I rode my T100 over to look at it. It came to a 106 mile round trip. It's a really nice looking bike and seems to have been really well cared for. Has about 8,000 miles on it and has almost new tires on it.

Suposedly it weighs about 40 lbs more than my T100 but it seemed a lot heavier. It belonged to a guy who recently died and his wife has put it on consignment at a pawn shop. It's been for sale for 11 weeks but the price was too high at $7900. She recently dropped it to $6900. The only problem I had with it is it felt so damned big and heavy. Otherwise it's a georgeous bike. The photos she put on the internet don't do it justice. But then so is my T100 and it really ran great on this mornings 106 mile round trip. So most likely I'm going to pass. But it's fun to window shop.
