Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

My lady is getting a jump on planting

Raising some cold weather stuff from seed

Asked me to build her some shelves in the foyer so they could get some sun

Can't remember what they all are
but
Pretty sure they're not butter

We'll put 'em in the hoop house in a few days

Busy week

Funny how fresh mown weeds look nice (in the spring)

I didn't have the heart to mow the little patch of grape hyacinth

Got a dusting of snow a couple days ago

Kale is a hardy plant
It's coming on strong this spring from last summer's planting

Had it in place of lettuce in our salad
Much better taste when picked in the cooler spring weather

Neither of us remember what this is, but it's as hardy as kale

might be spinach

So, my handyman bud hasn't come around for awhile

I've been expecting him, the last few days, for a two man job I've got lined up

Called him

He had a little story;

He was mowing this field, when he saw these two balls in the way

A basket ball
and a smaller round blue ball, looking like wunna those cheap beach balls

Got off his tractor
Being an avid socker player
He kicked the basket ball toward the fence
It came up short
He got a run at the smaller blue ball
wanting to kick it over the fence
Gave it the ol' free kick
Kicked it with all he had

Turns out
it was a bowling ball

I call him 'Drag Leg' now

All is well
Better than well

Just got a call from our fisherman son

He took his littlest boat (48 foot), forward wheelhouse (able to keep an eye on Faith)
Took three days to get from Astoria OR to Newport OR
scouting the salmon on the way

Not the best of seas

but productive

Found the fish
Filled the ice box with salmon in one day
About 10 grand worth
Every fish brings around $350 usd
He's a happy man

The girls are loving it

Thank you, Lord

All is more than well

Mighty fine day

Reached 75 today

Had aa delicious lunch at a favorite Mexican eatery

Shopped with my lady

Stopped at a garage sale
Bought a Bernina sewing machine
Rough estimate $2500 new
Paid @20
Could not believe it
Said his wife never used it

My lady said she felt bad getting it on my birthday
Told her I would've bought it anyway
Good investment turn
Doubt the ol' guy knew it's value...or maybe did
Talk about liquidating
He had a small (new looking) chest freezer for $50

He had other great buys, but......
Those kinds of garage sales I don't mind going to

What type of freezers upright or chest?

We have 2 large chest freezers
Always afraid of falling into them when I clean them & the lid crashing down .

Trying to eliminate the contends in one freezer.

Sewing machines have come a long ways since the treadle ones.
Am sorry I didn't get to to keep my grandmother's treadle sewing machine.

Cool, that your wife has a treble sewing machine.
Does she use it?
She's played with it

When I was taking an upholstery class .
The teacher mentioned that treadle machines worked good for heavy material.
Right now she's learning the tricks of her newly acquired Bernina 730

That thing goes thru 4 layers of heavy denim like butter
