We finally can see a black hole!!!

I saw that on the evening news and was wondering if we are seeing a black hole or something else.

I'm not saying a fake or hoax just something other than a black hole.

I was a little concerned or put off when the scientist described it as a monster, maybe he was referring to its size.

I guess I'm just skeptical, we'll see.

this could be a good story for Gary at the bar ?? - there were these two duds sittin in their favorite bar in Harlem and one said to the other.........???

It's real, all right. But not a regular photograph, it was put together by images from a lot of different telescopes. It's very big, the newspaper said nearly as big as our entire solar system!

I saw it & believed it, but I must say that Hollywood has the ability to create images that are
astounding and believable. Some folks still believe the moon landing was made on a back lot.

I sometimes wish I could have lived at a future time, when many of those scientific questions will be solved. It's like a good murder mystery. You have to admit the universe is a strange and wonderful place.

The proof has yet to come. A black hole is supposed to in effect defy gravity from which nothing can escape not even light. Well in order to test that you would have to place an object there and never see it again. A flashlight would not be seen again not even the light. I'm skeptical .Gravity is one of the least understood or explainable concepts in scientific circles.

A doughnut where you drop a toothpick in the centre while holding it and it doesn't fall through? I'm not sure of that. It's my own concept.

Camper, "the proof has yet to come?" The proof has arrived, in the vindicatiion of Einstein's theory. Or are you enough of a physics expert to be able to prove that his theory was wrong?

That argument sounds like the last, fading grumblings of the Flat Earth Society, who still have a few members in denial that the earth is round, no matter what common sense tells us, and no matter what
photographs are taken from outer space. What kind of proof are you looking for, other than the proof of science?

I agree, it is hard for us mere humans to conceive of places in the universe (and science says there are many) where space and time disappear, gravity becomes meaningless, and we enter a different
dimension. (Cue in Twilight Zone music). But that just shows how limited our understanding is at this point, not that scientific theories, or proofs, are wrong.

Einsteins theory or physical proof? Einstein's theories are still being challenged. They have been proven with physical evidence such as the bending of light by gravity observed during an eclipse. That's the kind of physical proof I am looking for.

So where is the physical proof of this black hole?

Nope I am a fan of Einstein and his theories.

Where is this 'vindication of Einstein's theory' you are speaking of? I just love it when someone challenges in a science discussion.

For instance. I believe that the Earth is unique in the universe and there are no other planets in the universe with life as we know it. I say Earth is a fluke. Of course this fluke has a limited life like everything else in the universe.

So did you actually see a black hole or a composite photograph?
