Is There Ever Something That You Repeatedly Lie About in Everyday Life?

When the cashiers in big stores like Walmart or supermarkets ask me when I'm checking out if I found everything I needed, I used to honestly say no, even though you had something on sale it wasn't on the shelf or in stock, so I'll have to go to a different store if I want to buy it today. That's just an example.

But when I saw that they really couldn't help me or do anything about my not finding what I was looking for, I decided to stop the senseless conversation, nip it in the bud, and just say 'yes'. It makes it easier on the cashier, me, and those standing in line waiting to be checked out.

Is there something that you repeatedly lie about in everyday life just to make things simpler?

Im the same in the supermarket, just say I found everything I needed.

Only place I’m honest is Trader Joe’s because they live to help you find something...makes their day. :)
 

Lies ....

'Yes' to the checkout cashier always ... they probably only ask because they are told to do so.

And "How are you doing?" ... "Just great, thanks!" No one want to hear anything more ..:D

I've never been to a Trader Joe's, although they have a store across town, I just never went there to check it out yet. But, I'd feel funny at the register, holding up the line while they searched for and item with phone pages, other cashiers walking around on foot, etc. Folks behind me would get really antsy, and usually when I go in for something I've already talked to a clerk or manager about locating the item or finding out if they expect it in anytime soon. Maybe they're more laid back at Trader Joe's. :lemo:

More laid back at Trader Joe’s and mine isn’t very crowded since we have 3 within about a 5 mile radius of me and I go when it opens at 8..does get crowded later.

The stores aren’t as big as a supermarket and there are stockers in every aisle so if they have it only takes a minute to get it to you.

edit: forgot to say that if there’s something you have never bought or tasted all you have to do is ask and they’ll give you a sample...open the package right there.
I haven’t tested this out yet but have read it on a FB Trader Joe’s group I follow.

Im sure not all TJs are the Same...some good, some not so good but the one I go is a good one. :)
 
yes I used to do the same as you SB, tell them the truth, hoping they would be able to suggest a solution, but as you say they didn't try and help in any way , so now I just say yes!!
 
I always say I have found everything I needed at the Supermarket even if I haven't. I just don't feel like getting into a long conversation with the cashier and having them ask if i want a co-worker to check. Most Supermarkets in my area I have been going to long enough to know where most of the products that I shop for are on the shelves and if it isn't there it isn't there.
 
When I am asked "how are you?" I say okay when I am not.
I have always said that.

What bothers me most is when I ask someone to go somewhere or do anything
they always say that they are too busy. They never ever admit that they are not interested
or don't want to. Be honest.

I usually just say No, thank you.

It's amazing to me how few people will accept that as an answer and leave it at that.

In most cases, people just continue to try and sell me on all of the benefits of their proposal until I finally lose my patience and snap at them.

When that happens I always feel bad but I seldom change my mind.
 
I usually say something like, " Well I found everything that I could remember that I needed." One cashier told me that's why you should make a list. I said I did make a list but I forgot to bring it. We had a nice chuckle over that.

I did the same thing SB, just being honest and a little irritated but now I just bite my tongue and say yes cuz I get out faster, lol...
 
I think most of us were schooled on being polite as youngsters, which has precipitated a bunch of small white lies along the way. :D Keeps the conversation civil when asked...

"Would you like to see my surgical wound?"
"Does this make me look fat?"
"Do you like the casserole I made?"
"Would you like to see my 10,000 vacation photos again?"

Etc.
 
I only get asked that question at one store, and then I say, "yes, and lots more than I never intended to." And that's not a lie.

The other morning at the grocery store I went to pick out a head of lettuce but all these was left in the case were about a half dozen little wilted heads with brown spots on them that were obviously what was left over from the day before. The ones nobody wanted. I didn't want them either.

So when I went to check out and the cashier asked the question I mentioned the lettuce. Big mistake. She picks up the phone and calls for the produce manager. About 5 minutes later this obviously annoyed dude comes up front and I can tell by the look on his face exactly what he's thinking. "What's this old fart's problem?" So the cashier explains to him about the lettuce situation and he comes over and tells me that the truck was 2 hours late this morning and hasn't been unloaded yet. So bottom line I wasted about 10 minutes of everybody's time for nothing.

Never again. I've learned my lesson. From now on when they ask, "Did you find everything you were looking for"? My reply will be "Yep".
 
The same at the grocery store. It IS faster. I do tell the truth about my health if someone asks me how I'm doing, though. I'll give them the litany. It makes me feel better and they're always very nice about it. :sentimental:

hahaha good for you, Chic... I do tell sometimes, mostly online tho'...... but in real life, I tend to just say I'm fine when I'm really not!!
 
Mostly my current hair color although if someone asks me what is my regular hair color I will tell them the history of my hair..lol
 
I lie to myself about the things I'm gonna get done every day....

I give it a shot..but I know..I know it aint gonna happen..

When asked... I explain that I was up & down every aisle and could not find the winning lottery numbers for tonight.
