because I'm already booked for the dates they want:( They'll be gone July 3/4/5 as well, and I accepted that one.

This dog sitting stuff has kind of taken off. DS says I should quit the cleaning fairy jobs, but the trouble with that is that my cleaning clients are the people who have the dogs!

Glad to hear your dog sitting has taken off GeorgiaXplant, that's great, fun job! You complaint isn't too bad though, at least you're busy and there's money coming in...lots of folks can't find any jobs in their areas. I wish I had a cleaning fairy, LOL! :hair:

Being a cleaning fairy isn't for everybody, but I bet dog sitting would be in demand. Wait, cleaning fairies are in demand, too! In the past three weeks, I've turned down three cleaning jobs. In the past three weeks, I've also had to turn down three dog sitting jobs. Dog sitting is a pleasant gig for sure; cleaning isn't as pleasant sometimes:)

People love the idea that they don't have to load up their dog(s) and tote them off to a kennel, then load the dog(s) up at the kennel when they come back and tote them home again. And for what kennels charge? Omigosh! One clients has three dogs, and a three-day weekend at the kennel costs them upwards of $500. I'm easy...charge $35/day whether one dog or three (three's the most any of my clients have).

Sea, maybe we could work something out for me to ride my turbo-charged broom over, zip through your house, and turbo-charge myself back home again. LOL

ETA: So I sent a heads up to my favorite dog parents with dates I'm spoken for and got an immediate reply asking me to pretty please dog sit for them Wed-Sun of Thanksgiving week and that they'll probably need me in September and will let me know as soon as the dates are firm. Gracious, maybe I'll "retire" rich after all!

You know I've never left my pets in a kennel, and my pets are my babies. When we were younger, my in laws lived nearby, and we always took the dog or cat to them if we were going somewhere...never had to worry about them in the least, just miss them. Now we're older, we go on camping trips for vacations and take the pets with us. If I had to leave them, I'd much rather have a trust-worthy sitter come over than use a kennel. But I have heard some horror stories of pet sitters accidentally letting the dog or cat outdoors, only to be lost or hit by a car, or attacked by another animal. Have you ever had a bad experience with pets?

Oh, my...that would be an awful thing to happen on my watch! I'm very careful with *my* dogs, and if the yard isn't fenced, the leash goes on before the door gets opened. This past weekend there was also a parakeet in the house but her water and food were all taken care of in advance, and even though her people let her out for a while in the evenings, I didn't because I'd feel terrible if she got lost in the house or flew outside when the door was open. I guard *my* dogs like I would my kids:)

My daughter and family are going to Canada for five weeks, they have two dogs, whom they normally leave with her husband's parents, but unfortunately they aren't in the best of health at present. I am not prepared to have the animals so they will have to look for kennels to put them in, just as we used to do when we had dogs some years ago. They didn't come to any harm, but then we never treated animals as surrogate humans, so they weren't pampered.

They don't have you cleaning the dogs do they? That should be extra...

LOL That Guy. Nope. Don't have to clean the dogs! If I'm there on their regular cleaning day, they pay for the dog sitting AND the cleaning.

fiddlesticks?? I haven't heard that word for years, is that sort of a mild swearing word?

I'd forgotten that. My mom was the lady's lady and never swore. Her favorite "swear" words were fiddlesticks and OH sugar! HA! I, on the other hand, use every (expletive deleted) word in the (expletive deleted) book. That's what they're (expletive deleted) for, after all . . . (expletive deleted).

Fiddlesticks. It's what my grandmothers used to say. And if they were told something that wasn't exactly believable, they'd say "oh, pish and tosh".
