Your Money is No Good Here!

Somebody here posted about a restaurant (I think) that
would only take cash.

We now have a supermarket store that won't accept it!

Sainsbury's, one of our larger supermarkets has a local
branch in the center of London with no tills.

This shop is just up the road from the "City", which was
the financial center before some companies moved to a
new area.

You have to pay using a "Smart" phone.

Guardian story, click here.

I did read that Hollydolly, but only at a push, if you
lost your phone, or haven't yet got it set up to pay,
I think.

I don't like that idea, you shouldn't need a device like a smartphone to purchase anything, IMO. Even demanding credit card only is too much in my view.

I just bought my very first smartphone very recently AC, before that I only had a Tracfone for years, so that would definitely leave me out. I guess I just wouldn't support a business like that, and would take my money elsewhere.

I don't have a smart phone or want one. I very rarely use cash when doing my supermarket shopping, preferring to use my debit card, especially as I usually spend in the region of £70-£100 when doing my weekly shop.

I wouldn't like that store at all. I have a smart phone but I don't have any of my banking info on it. I might lose my phone and someone could possibly get their hands on all my info.

Like you I would never wish to put any banking info on a smart phone if I had one, for the same reason you gave.

I wouldn't use it either, my phone is a smart phone, but
it is a phone and not for paying for things, some people
use their phone for everything, even for a bus journey.

I don't use cash accept in rare circumstances, but I put everything on a credit card. Since card has cash rewards, makes sense to do that. Everything I purchase is 3%-5% discounted with the cash back.

I don't own a credit card, only a couple of debit cards for our two current accounts, my own and our joint account. I prefer the money to be removed as soon as it is spent. We have quite a number of accounts including savings accounts, I check ours every day to ensure all is well. If I am concerned about anything I contact our eldest girl who will check it out. My husband was in charge of all our financial affairs before a burst aneurysm trashed half his brain in 2006.

I'm the same as you Linda, I have the latest iphone but I absolutely do not have any banking details on it, for exactly the same reason .

I agree. Some people don't have a smart phone, or even a cell phone. And not everyone is technology literate.

I'm Canadian. If you are a senior and getting pension money from the government they are now insisting on direct deposit. Too many problems with the mail method.

So either conform or suffer. I can't imagine the old days when you ran all over town paying your bills with cash.

Cash is obsolete. You don't need it.

I'm pretty sure Social Security here only does direct deposit, too. Fine with me -- saves me having to go to the bank. I HATE errands.
