Is Packaging Getting Harder to Open These Days, or Is It Just Me?

Remember when someone tampered with a bottle of Tylenol in a store and poisoned some people? It contributed if not the major cause.

Every time I struggle to get the plastic wrapper off,the childhood cap off and the inner seal broken I have a few choice words with the Tylenol poisoner...speaking of,did they ever figure that out?

I was four years gone from Chicago, when the tylenol killer struck. I remember watching the news, and recognizing the drug stores shown in the clips. He/she was never found, as I recall. Yeah, that series of killings was instrumental in getting new safety seals in place.

I find it quite funny! I keep plyers and scissors handy. And even then, things, simple things are hard to open! UHG! Teeth are still good to use. :D Yeah, this is only part of getting on with age. NO shoes fit comfortably, have to have those $45 inserts. Then they are soft and fine. But then, these are little things, so I don't make a big deal out of it, yet.

"Teeth?" HAHA. I ain't using my teeth to open anything. They cost me over $70,000.00 - 30 crowns, two bridges & 28 root canals.

Yes, harder now than in years gone by. On the bright side, there are a number of tools available to help with that, and zip lock bags for the resealable that won't reseal :(. Don...

I have resorted to sheet metal tin-snip shears to open some packages. It does seem like all packaging today is harder to open. Some wrappers appear to be made of Kevlar! You know, the bullet proof stuff.

The other day I tried and then my husband tried to open a plastic tub of Stubbs pickles. The clip on the corner seems to be what we’d break off. He finally gave up after 5 minutes and later got a knife to pry it off. Next step was going to be the pliers. The irony was the new label on the top that said “Easier to Open.”

There were lots of online complaints about this and no replies from Strubbs.

The Tylenol Killer was never found.
lots of theories on it ... guess they could not prove it .....
one theory was 1 person was an intentional murder and the other poisonings were to cover that up..... saw that on one of those dateline type shows

As for packaging my annoyance is that those who are resealable packages the top tear here piece never seems to line up to where you can open so after tearing i need scissors anyway to get where the resealable part opens

Fast Forward 8 years from the original post .... and it continues to only get worse.

... another year or two of this, and when we buy things, they will be permanently sealed and totally unusable! :ROFLMAO::cry:

I buy Tide pods at Costco, the bags say they are child proof. They are me proof too! I have to open a new bag, and get the scissors, cut open the bag, put the pods in a zip lock bag!

Thanks for bumping this thread. I've been thinking the same thing. One of my peeves are those little pull up flaps on narrow mouthed bottles that run right down the center so you don't have to get out a knife and cut it open. But the seal is so sealed and the flap is so weak, you just end up pulling the flap off, and then you have to get out a knife and cut it open. Why do they bother attaching that flap anyway?
