Which do you prefer, texting, emailing or talking on your phone?

I can post on a forum at my leisure. No deadline, no obligation to post a immediate reply etc. There is a big difference between "texting" and using a forum.

You are using text to communicate on the forum. You are typing the letters in. That's texting. I have no idea what you think texting is.

That isn't texting, not per the mirriam webster definition of texting, which is the action of sending a text message (as opposed to having an audio conversation) from one cell phone to another.

With cellphone texting, you're limiting your audience to the person you choose to communicate with. On a forum, you are responding or communicating to a group at large and just because you're responding in text format doesn't mean you're texting.

Perhaps it's just a semantics issue. Texting is NewSpeak....making what used to be specifically a noun into a verb form. Yes, if you're reading what I'm saying right now, it's in text form, as opposed to a video message, or an audio message. That doesn't mean I'm texting, which is specifically the action of communicating from one cell phone to another.

Our family exchanges e-mails on a frequent basis for routine communications, and phone calls at least weekly...just to stay in touch. None of us are "texters", and I only keep a basic Tracfone for when we are away from the house....hardly ever have any need for it.

Depending on the recipient, I prefer to e mail, you can think about what you want to say, save it in drafts and send it when you’re ready to, texting is too fiddly for me, if I use my phone at all it’s just for short calls, but my daughter and I talk on FaceTime every day

By far, I prefer to talk - either on the phone or face to face. That is the most direct, succinct form of communication and has the most human touch. If I have questions about a project or anything at work I find it is easiest to talk directly to the people involved. You can solve a lot of problems quickly by face to face communication. Most people, though, don't want to seem to do this. They want emails or texts.

Interestingly, I find that the responses to my communication requests are as follows at work:

Leaving a phone message = 25% response rate for a call back
Leaving an email message = 85% response rate
Leaving a text message = 90 - 100% response rate

I find it bizarre that the preferred form of communication now is texts. In my opinion, it is going backwards not forwards. I don't think it bodes well for the new generation. I think texts are selfish in that you get your point across and that's it. You don't care about actually communicating.

I prefer texting for business and non-business. I use texting for my contracts, and they're immediate and litigable. I used to prefer email, but I've gotten faster with texting, so that's what I use. Also, with cell phones, even with the ultra-modern units, the most commonly uttered phrase is still: "What? Say that again, you cut out." That drives me nuts.

I think it's strange when people say they "met" someone online or that they're "dating" someone they met online, then it turns out they haven't really met the person - they're just emailing and texting, and maybe they've talked on the phone.

emailing/texting/talking on the phone is not dating.
Dating = spending time together in person.

I got my 1st cell phone last July, I have made one call with it so far. I prefer the land line for calls. I send mostly emails, and I post on forums.

I dislike talking on the phone and only do it if I have to which isn’t often at all
Texting is great for short messages which I use the most
Emails are used for longer messages where more detail is needed.

I agree with the talking on the phone..I can't stand to get in a long conversation...

Funny how when as a teenager I could talk on the phone for hours and not think a thing about it....

I only have an emergency phone like AZ but I can and will text on it..(old school)

As far as conversing.. pertaining to business.. I like email so I have a record of the conversation.

When mobile (cell) phones came out I got one, but soon tired of it because I was becoming a slave to it...it rang...I answered, no matter where I happened to be, then this texting lark started and soon I was driven up the wall by this new lingo......I gave the phone away.

But back to the thread. yes, I sometimes use the landline phone, but being a bit deaf I prefer to communicate with emails, however, talking face to face may be considered 'old fashioned', but for me, looking at and talking to a person is by far the best.....:D

Meeting them in person of course is the best. But that's not always an option.
