Three Knocks ???

Earlier tonight, I was just hanging up the phone [landline] when I heard three very loud knocks of unknown origin. They appeared to come from just outside my house. However, no one was at my front or back door and there wasn't any other possible origin or reason for the three knocks [my house is brick.]

It kept bugging me to the point I went on the internet to look up if there were any "old wives tales" about hearing three knocks... and sure enough there were several different websites with similar info that discussed the superstition that when one hears three knocks it means someone close to you will die. Apparently this is a very old superstition, but I had never heard of it before. But now I wonder if those three mysterious knocks do have some sort of special meaning ??

I have another reason to be interested in the possible meaning of these three knocks... because in the week before my special needs son died suddenly and unexpectedly during a seizure, something else strange happened three times... something that puzzled me at the time... but only made sense after my son's death !!

.

I have no idea what those 3 knocks meant but I hope nothing bad happens! I hear all kinds of odd sounds around here and often I never find out what they were. Best wishes!

myself I believe the three knocks is a spiritual visitor just saying heloo' which I have been told by many '
usually someone very close to you ….

It happened right as I hung up the phone.

The brief phone call was me leaving a message to cancel a meeting for Monday afternoon.

I wonder if that timing has any meaning ??

Think horses, not zebras. That's the advice given to would be doctors. It means to think of the most common, mundane cause of an illness, rather than some, obscure bizarre diagnosis. If you are worried about something, everything could be an "omen". There are four letter is "omen". OMG!! What could that mean?? It means that's how we spell the word "omen". See horses, not zebras.

I searched a long time for horses and found none... so now I'm wondering if it could be a zebra ?!

What did the three knocks sound like? Was it like pounding on wood or like on your door? Did it seem to come from outside or somewhere in your house? Was it real loud or just kind of a lighter type of sound? Could it have been from some appliance like from a refrigerator? Could someone have lit a kind of fireworks? That kind of sound? Did you get some kind of package delivered at your front door?

The other morning the door bell woke me up. Curious the dog didn't bark. I ran to the door; no one there.

Twice before in recent years I heard a voice shout my name, loud, and woke me up. Have no idea.....

I will tell you what happened three times in the week before my autistic son died suddenly and expectedly during a seizure.

Because my son was autistic there was little vocal communication. If he needed something he would tell me using a single word. Being autistic he liked routine. One of our routines was to watch "Wheel of Fortune." I would turn on the TV show, he would sit on the sofa and say "blanket" [which was his way of asking me to give him his special blue blanket he liked to cuddle with on the sofa.] For many years it was this very same daily routine... TV, sofa, "blanket"... TV, sofa, "blanket." Those who know autistics or have seen the movie, "Rainman", will understand how important the very same routine is to autistics.

One day out of the blue... I turned on "Wheel of Fortune", my son sat on the sofa... then he said "towel" !! TOWEL ?! I stopped what I was doing and looked at him and repeated, "TOWEL ?!" But he just looked at me. Then I said, you mean "blanket" and I gave him his blanket and he was content. I knew that was very odd... but I forgot about it... until a couple of days later when I turned on "Wheel", he sat on the sofa and again all he said was "towel" TOWEL ?! Now I was concerned. I could not communicate with him normally. But he did know his colors. So I asked him what color is the "towel" and he said "white" [his blanket was blue.] Then it happened again, for the third time, exactly the same way. He asked for this mysterious white "towel." I was scared... I thought his brain was further malfunctioning.

Then a couple of mornings later he woke, acted normal, but had a grand mal seizure while he was still in bed. [In spite of taking seizure meds, he still had seizures, so that was not unusual.] But this time, he never woke up from the seizure and died even though EMTs worked on him for about 30 minutes.

Needless to say... I had forgotten all about the white "towel."

Because he was young and died at home, Dallas country required an autopsy. The funeral home warned me that the autopsy would negatively affect the body for viewing. So I was the only one who viewed him before burial. The morning I was going to view his body, I tried to decide whether or not to bring his blue blanket with me to put in his coffin. I had already given the funeral home some of his favorite toys. I decided not to bring his blue blanket. Imagine my shock when I went to the funeral home to view my son for the last time... and there in his coffin under his head was a WHITE TOWEL !! Instead of his blue blanket... he had WHITE TOWEL !!

[Apparently, the funeral home had placed it there due to the autopsy.]

I was in my kitchen area which also has a table nook so it's a big room. The house was quiet and I had just hung up the kitchen wall phone when I heard three very loud knocks. It was if someone was knocking on wood, like a wood door. The sound seemed to come from in front of me... either inside the kitchen area... or right outside the kitchen wall to the outside. The only wooden door to the outside is my front door which was about 12 feet behind me but the sound did NOT come from that area. My phone is next to my refrigerator... so it wasn't the refrigerator. I spent about 30 minutes looking around [I even went into the garage] to try to figure it out... but couldn't.

The only thing similar for me was long ago when I had been sleeping and a loud knock outside of my bedroom wall woke me up. I mean really loud, not anything I would have dreamed about. I got up thinking my brother was home after a night out and forgot his keys. That's the only thing I thought of, so I got up and went and opened the front door for him, except no one was there.

My husband wants to know if it could have been a woodpecker. We have them here. I don't think yours was a woodpecker.

That was very interesting about your son and the white towel. I'm glad you shared it with us.

July 18 it will be six years since my son died..

Over the years I have told several people about the "white towel" and posted about it on-line a couple of times.

But just now as I was re-reading what I wrote... I remembered how many times my son would take his blue blanket, bunch it up and put in under his head while he was on the sofa... ... again... just like the white towel was under his head in his coffin !!

WOW! After all these years... why did I just now make that association ?!

Shortly after my son died... my first dream of him was very brief. In my dream, he and I were standing in my kitchen by the stove and we hugged each other. I figured that kind of dream is common among those who have suddenly and unexpectedly lost loved ones... sort of like a last goodbye.

But now I wonder if somehow those three mysterious knocks while I was in my kitchen are related ??

I have two big trees in my backyard. I have seen and heard woodpeckers here before.
The sound was different. Woodpecker sound is fast, more repetitive and not as loud.

I would consider it a paranormal event and not try to figure it out. You could try to go back to the spot you were at and at the exact time it happened vocally ask it to repeat the knock.

That's something else odd. I don't believe in what many people call the "paranormal", like ghosts. My personal religious belief is the soul sleeps until the resurrection. But I do believe that God can give us signs, dreams and visions..

My son liked plastic slinkys, especially the rainbow colored ones, and always had one with him. But his slinky would break from time to time. So for many years I had plenty of extra slinkys stored on the top shelf of his closet. After he died, I asked the funeral home to put a rainbow slinky in his hand and I put an extra rainbow slinky in his coffin. After that, I left his closet and his room as is and hardly ever went in. One day around the first anniversary of his death, I went in to do some cleaning. As I opened the door to his closet... there on the floor right in front of me was one of his rainbow slinkys that had apparently fallen down from the top shelf [first time ever one had fallen]...and somehow it had fallen down to make a perfect rainbow arc !!
