So I just spent the past 2 days driving Miss Daisy (My mom) to appointments

I think we have finally found someone that can help her.

It took 4 1/2 hours for test, they put dye in her arm and took pictures and then did a sonogram of the eye.

She will not ever get the center vision back but he thinks he can get her peripheral vision back in her right eye.

I'm feeling good about it and she is too.(That's most important)

She was so afraid to get another shot after her last experience but this Dr. is really good. She hugged his neck afterwards.

There is leakage in the left eye (her good eye) He thinks he can control it with the shots.

All this after the last Dr said he couldn't do anything else for her.

This Dr said once he gets the bleeding under control he can do a surgery similar to cataract surgery to take out the blood.

I just pray that this is all true and not just another Dr. trying to get what he can from her insurance....

Anyway... I know this may not make much sense, but I'm just grateful right now.

I hope they can help her, Seeker. My poor dad had MD, and he was so devastated by it. I have my own eyes checked annually so hopefully I can get treatment early if I develop it.

It's always a good idea to do some research when faced with any issue that we lack knowledge in. I've learned that applies to home repairs - plumbing, electrical, as well as health issues. On 4 occasions, surgery was recommended to me for conditions that have no useful treatment or a bad track record for benefit. With all 4 issues, doctors tried to convince me it would help & got very angry & quickly left the room when I questioned them about what I learned. This economy has corrupted doctors and dentists who were previously honest; I've had to change dentists 3 times.
Weight-Loss Surgery (heavy advertising; many doctors do nothing else now)
Dry Eye Surgery
Carpal Tunnel Surgery (poor success rate)
Eye Floater Surgery
Dental Implants (good in some cases, but now being marketed to everyone)

My cousin has MD as well. She can still maneuver OK walking...she can walk to the grocery store about a block away. But more often she goes with her husband as she has more difficulty seeing things at the store. She has not driven in about 3 years. Guess her doctor told her to decide on her own when to stop. She decided then and there she no longer wanted to drive.

My mother thinks that if this works she will drive again....It's been over a year now.

She's gonna be 87 next month and I just do not want her behind the wheel.

She just will not give in, and that's OK. She got spunk.

Wishing the best for your mom Seeker, I hope they can do something for her. Especially with her vision problem, I wouldn't want her behind the wheel either, but it's good that she's spunky!
