So, is everyone afraid of hot topics?

All this...tippytoeing. Sure, having a few games going and froo froo topics is fine and dandy but we don't live in a froo froo world, do we? There is a lot of ugly out there...and pretending it isn't there will not solve anything. So..what's the deal on the nice nice threads that permeate the place?

I am not complaining. Just noticing for some time now that the majority of topics are games. I like games once in awhile..but I like meat with my taters too. And I feel constricted while being on my best behavior which is NOT all of who I am.

Or is it just me?

Hot topics is not this kind of board? Really.

I didn't say nasty, mean, hateful topics. I said hot topics.

Under the community tab you'll see 'groups'. One of the groups is called Speakers' Corner.
It says about that group: A general discussion group for more serious issues and current affairs.
I think they like to discuss the more serious, sensitive, meaty, topics not generally 'welcome' on the forum.

I do too, Lois. I like fluff...but I like discussing other things too. Thank you for the heads up..and I thank Ina as well. :love_heart:

Kaya, I am married to a very intelligent man. We are both retired so in each others company a lot. He reads the news and likes to seriously discuss a variety of current topics. He picks apart an issue completely. I reach a point where I've had enough & I start getting a headache. After a couple hours I really need the subject to be changed. I've noticed that for the most part when I visit this forum, I avoid the 'meaty' topics... just because I've had my fill of hearing about it at home. Occasionally I jump in and express my point of view, but I've noticed those are topics not found in the current news... such as life on other planets and if you believe in God. I am not burned out on those subjects. As a whole I'd say most topics here are like milk toast. Very bland. Maybe I should also join the Speakers' Corner too, but my participation would probably be limited.

All family-friendly topics are welcome. We even have a forum for hot topics, sensitive discussions, or debates, without such discussions, this board would be boring. :)

All groups including "Speakers' Corner" were created by members. It doesn't mean the forum wants to avoid certain discussions on the main forum.

Bland. LOL. I have been feeling the same way lately, Lois. Like..I need to tippytoe so I don't post a topic that is too volatile. So far, I have had good luck in choosing topics, I must say. And personally...I am not interested in political topics. Or race topics. Or abortion topics. Or even religious topics. I did start one, and everyone got along fine, I am pleased to say.
I am just tired of seeing nothing but games, froo froo stuff and wanted something more, where I can actually KNOW the people here. I don't care if they want jam or jelly, toilet paper up or down, etc. I want to know what makes them tick. And the only way to find that out is to delve deeper than poodle skirts and dinner menus.

Hope that made sense without offending anyone. I asked this question because although I have been here longer than the other gal that deemed to speak for the WHOLE board, I am still new enough to not know what folks want as subjects. Hence, me asking.

Yes, you should join, Lois, even if it is just drive by hits and missses. They have some mighty fine subjects in there, but most are in europe I believe, so when I am in there..they are asleep in their beds.

Thanks matrix. I was not even aware of Groups until Ina told me. :)

I am not interested in games, I like debating topics, but some people get very sensitive if their views are challenged forcefully.

I don't, Justme. I like a good debate (AKA argument) and I challenge people's views all the time.
Happy to engage you any time, any topic, just for sport.

Speakers' Corner, found under Community (blue bar at top of page) then Groups, is one place where vigorous debate is welcomed.

You simply join the group then go for your life. Start topics yourself or tag along with existing ones. You can leave the group anytime too without affecting general forum membership. Read the blurb first but I'm sure you are familiar with the tradition of Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park.

The only rule is respect and civility. Argue the toss all you like but no name calling.

I can only speak from my point of view because we're all different. I enjoy reading other members points of view and don't always join in. I'm not being lazy it's just that sometimes life gives us enough hassle or things to think about without getting into arguments or even debates. In other words it's good to just socialise.

My sentiments exactly. :)

I don't even look in speakers corner anymore because there is usually only 2 or 3 people discussing any subject. I would prefer the "hot" topics be discussed on the new hot topics forum.

I seldom play games and would like for them to all be moved to "groups"

My husband and I hear the local and world new about three times a day and most of it is very depressing.
When I come here I like to relax and play a couple of games and read friendly posts from others and try to post a few too.
Hashing over world problems does nothing to lift my spirits.
I will try to keep my game playing to a minimum so that is not all that shows up in new posts.

Oh, don't do that. Live for yourself. You want to play the games, that's what they are here for. Have fun. :)

I think we all come from different places in our lives... some, like myself want the fun and social talk (and games) and not get involved in heavy political and "hot" issues.
I agree with a lot of what Lois said earlier in this thread. My husband was also very intelligent. He died last year.
He was all over every political topic out there... he could rant for hours about the state of the world and who was doing what wrong. It just gave me a headache!

I enjoy the escape on this forum from heavy talk, which is the Speakers Corner group.

I think this board is set up nicely by Matrix, and we can all be here without stepping on each other's toes.
