What is the Last Car Repair You Had to Have Done?

My AC on my car went last year and I will finally be getting an AC charge. Hopefully it will take and me and the dog can take some rides in the heat. I also need a new tire as one of the older ones got that dry rot and keeps going flat. The stone guard fell down too and was dragging on the ground; getting that taken care of today or tomorrow, too. I was fed up with putting air in the tire, tucking the stone guard into the back of the front bumper and no AC so they are going to fix those things! I need more work on the car but those need to be done first and I don't plan on keeping this car for a whole lot longer.

Have you had to have anything done to your vehicle lately?

We've tried to turn off the light that says we are releasing too many emissions from the gas tank. We can't get it inspected with that light on, and no one seems to be able to turn it off. We tried to get it fixed, but it didn't work. Can't get the car inspected with it on, and there's a fine without the inspection tag. It's very annoying.

Disconnect the positive battery post for about 30 minutes, if the light stays off (after you reconnect it) run to the inspection station!!

Did you try a new gas cap???

This week I stopped at the garage and they replaced a fog light, it fell out in the middle of the road while I was driving!

Also, a door switch/sensor that controls the door ajar light and chime.

Declined service on the StabiliTrak system that involved replacing the EBCM computer.

I long for the days of a simple mechanical vehicle without all of the must-have electronics.

I replaced the dome light on my work truck. It was tough finding a replacement switch. I'm thankful for the truck forums that had suggestions for compatible switches from other applications. If I had to replace the whole unit, I was looking at around $189. The $12, I spent, was better!

Did they quote you a price for the complete job?

The price to replace the EBCM including labor was around $1,200.

The other repairs, diagnostic charge, and an oil change came to around $450.00. The replacement of the fog light was the only charge that seemed excessive to me but I'm too old to crawl around under my vehicle with a roll of duct tape.

I've dealt with these folks for some time and they are on the high side of what I consider to be fair. I use them because they are within walking distance of my apartment and because they provide local jobs with decent wages and benefits.

The place I go to is just down the street too and like your place charge a bit too much too.

Gas cap would be my first guess.

I just had the front brakes done in my 2013 Ford Edge last week and will be having the rear brakes done next week. I'm kind of fortunate that my next door neighbor has his own garage and does all my repairs. He takes my car to work in the morning, fixes it and delivers back to my driveway at night.

I also had my check engine light come on yesterday, so he'll be checking that out as well. It doesn't appear to be anything serious as the car still runs fine, but you never know with all these damn sensors they have these days.

I was a mechanic when I was younger, but I have no want to do any in depth repairs these days.

I've been getting some "noises" from the engine belt area on my trusty old 1997 Dodge Dakota. I replaced the belt, the idler pulley, and the tension idler pulley a couple of weeks ago, and that got rid of most of the noises, but I still have a background "whine" from the same area. I'm pretty sure that the alternator bearings are starting to go bad....I dripped a few drops of oil behind the drive pulley, and that quieted it down substantially. So...I will probably install a new alternator sometime in the next couple of weeks. Oh, well...22 yrs. old, just turned 100k, still looks almost like new....a couple hundred for new alternator is sure a lot cheaper than $45k+ for a new truck.

Yes if it works for you that's cool!

That's about the price from a garage to replace the module. I never got into replacing any of them, but I would imagine most of the money goes to pay for the time. I enjoy working on cars, but some of them drive a person batty, especially if they are tight areas to work in and the electronics are another issue.

My son has a lift at his home, so I save a lot of money doing the work myself. With the lift, I can easily work under the car or my SUV.

cant remember, since ive leased new cars for the past 8yrs......had no problems with them !
