Food Budget

I save all my cash register slips and add them up at the end of the year. However, I spend on cat food and pet supplies and there are a few sundries now and then, things I do not consume, that are included. It increases slightly every year, likely due to increased store prices, but last year it was around $2600. I was just wondering if that was less, more or just about average for a person.

We spend way above average, but our disposable income is fairly high. I remember without fondness the days when I had to drive to three or four different markets, buying only the specials on sale at each. Ugh!

We dine out a fair amount, but I do a lot of cooking and we're very brand-specific now. Nothing to do with price; for example, we once tried a bunch of different types/brands of cream cheese. There was only 1 brand/type my DH liked; everything else he thought tasted "spoiled" (Asians are not fond of fermented dairy, because it tastes like milk gone bad to them). So it doesn't matter what goes on sale, when there's only 1 brand he'll eat.

We spend roughly $700+/mo. on groceries; depending on travel/dining out, which is a separate category of expense.

I live alone, rarely entertain or eat out.

I'll always be a value shopper, I enjoy the hunt/game.

I spend approx. $300.00/month on food, household items, and over the counter medications supplements, etc...

The food portion is approx. $200/month and includes many convenience foods and foods packaged in individual portions. The trend towards convenience foods will probably increase as I get older/lazier and more dangerous in the kitchen.

Like Aunt Bea, I live alone and rarely entertain or eat out. I live in a rural farming community so my food expenses are quite low in the summer when fruits and vegetables (all organic) are plentiful. I don't care much for meat but I'll have chicken maybe once a week.

I make most of my meals and bake my own breads and desserts. Being retired, I have time for this now. It wasn't the case when I worked full time and life was more hectic.

I would estimate that I spend about $200/month on groceries.

Convenience food cost more, but I like some of them like bagaged sald mixes. Better paying $4 for a bag than $40000 in hospital bills if I cut off a finger trying to chop veggies (no food processor and I am getting very clumsy with hand dexterity).

No idea. I go to the supermarkets every fortnight for food and non-food items. Other things like meat and fish are bought when needed. As well as that, we grow some of our own fruit and vegetables, and also help raise pigs and sheep for meat. That makes the cost hard to work out, so all I can say is that we can afford to live modestly well. That's good enough.

Not sure but have been cutting back on stuff I end up tossing. I buy cheaper cuts of chicken often. I'd guess at $300.00 per month for actual food.

I probably spend about 500$ a month. I also stock up on meat wednesday mark down at sams. Then I split up,the package and freeze it in meal sizes for 2. Like last night i spend about 60$ non edible items and sugarfree gum and mint candy. Instead of the 3$ peanut oil i get I had to buy the 13$ bottle because the stores been out for 3 weeks now. But the non edibles will last anywhere from 3 months to 6 months. We eat meat and vegetable and we have salmon once a week.

When i shop online from walmart i seem to spend more like an average 50$ a week for veggies, household and bath item etc. Then i get my sams markdown meats and salmon from krogerz. Salmon is 15$ wednesday always sale day for salmon as well. So shopping omline helps me to not over buy.

I HATE it when I forget about something and end up having to toss it. Yesterday I discovered some forgotten used-to-be fresh asparagus in the back of the fridge and I had to toss it. Whenever I do that I can hear my mother's voice (she lived through the Great Depression and WWII rationing) saying "NEVER NEVER NEVER waste food!!! Wasting food was at the top of her list of deadly sins and she thought there was never a valid excuse for doing it.

I eat out for lunch nearly every day mostly constantly trying new places and or new menu items. Breakfast & super I typically eat at home because traffic I too heavy. I don't watch how much I spend on food as long as I have some idea of the numbers.
