A bittersweet good bye to our campgrounds.

After 20 years of driving from Florida to New York, we are calling it quits. The camper is sold and we will be staying at our home in Florida. Lots of reasons for this decision include, age, our doctors are in Fl and my VA is there. My wife has worked part-time in the office and we looked after the campgrounds when owner wasn’t here. A darn good deal for us, as we lived here free of rent.

We will miss the old camper, a 1999 Franklin Park model. Been good to us over the years. Still looks good...see photo. Looking forward to getting more involved in our Fl community and keeping going on as long as we can.

It's beautiful, Pappy. I would hate to leave it. When do you go back to FL?

Hope all works out well for you folks. The drive does get to feel longer and longer until eventually it doesn't seem worth the effort. We made the trip from Mass. for 16 years and enjoyed every winter spent there but we made our last trip in 2012. We do miss our winters there but not to the extent that now, in our mid-80's, we'd make the drive again. We also never bought a place but returned to the same apartment each year for our 3 month stay.

A few people have made offers for my place, told them I was not selling ripped checks up and gave them back.
Not sure I could do what you are doing Pappy , however I wish you luck.

I’m glad that you had so many wonderful years in your camper. I wish you a lovely continuance of your retirement in Florida.

Pappy, I'm glad you're not making that trip back and forth anymore. I can't blame you for missing your beautiful camper and your times in New York, I'm sure you have a lot of wonderful memories there. Like Aunt Bea said, it's a new beginning for you both, and I hope you enjoy your time there now in Florida. Be careful, and have a safe trip! 🧡

Thanks everyone. I was born and raised in NYS in the country. I will miss the hills and woods, but not the snow. I will miss this old town of Sylvan Beach, were the Barge canal empties into Oneida Lake. Always something going on here. See photo. Chicken run this weekend.

I think it will be pretty tough to drive out for the last time but at least you know what you are getting yourself into. Many people pack up and leave an area and absolutely hate their new home. I wish you the best and now you can sit back and watch the rest of us up north dig out from under the snow this winter which I've been hearing is going to be a rough one. Must be so,I saw several caterpillars with there woolly winter coats on.
