Don’t forget your appointment OK ?

After making an opticians appointment during the week, I wrote the details on my calendar, a couple of days later I received an e mail to remind me I had an appointment stating the date and time, now they’ve just phoned me, again to remind me of my appointment !!

Am I missing something here ? Is there an amnesia epidemic or something ? or is this normal practice these days ?

I never give opticians and dentists etc my email address, only ever my phone number, and then they text the day before my appointment..usually

I say usually because last Wednesday I went to collect my prescription readers, and they weren't ready,, and no-one had called me to cancel my appt, very annoying 🤨

I’m sure admin staff have better things to do than chase people with reminders, in my view, it’s the patients responsibility, having made the appointment !

Incidentally toffee, don’t forget your shingles jab ...😄

When I worked, I was stood up for appointments taken but not kept about 15% of the time, which wasted time and for my employer, money. "No-shows" also punished me, as I was rated in part by how much I got done. This is why my dentist and physician call with appointment reminders, although I still have a few brain cells working and find the practice irritating. There's a segment of the population, however, that are forgetful, disorganized, or irresponsible...

Ditto...time is money...

I get reminders in the mail and then a phone call about a day before my appointment. I never answer their calls but I let my answering machine deal with them. When they ask for my email address, I tell them I don't give that information out because I get enough junk email. They don't ask again.

It’s a time management strategy for the business. Many folks do forget an appointment but the staff has to be paid and lights kept on whether they’re there or not. If the staff is given enough notice they can fill the slot ... a lot of businesses have a wait list for first available appointment.

One of my good friends is a very successful dentist and no-show patients are one of the biggest problems. She sends out text and email notices, not just 24 hours before the appointment but also 24 hrs after the appointment was made as a further reminder for the patient to make a note.

She says no shows are happening more and more in spite of that. It’s really rude. 😡

"No shows" cost money. Lost time can't be made up. The opportunity to earn a fee is gone. And there is another reason. I worked in an eye clinic years ago. We had a back log of several weeks to get an appointment. When several 'no shows' didn't show up, you had a doctor twiddling his thumbs, when he could be wiping out that back log, so it wouldn't take weeks to see a doctor.

You aren't with vision express then. They remind you when you it's time to book an appointment but that's about it.You are lucky if they tell you your new glasses are ready. But they do thorough eye tests.

Where I am the Doctor, Dentist and all Hospitals
send text messages when you get an appointment
and again the day before, the staff don't do it, they
use computers, the only time you get a person is if
somebody wants to tell you something specific, but
not about an appointment.

All mobile/cell phone numbers are registered with the
doctor and dentist, they tell the hospitals.

I’m with Specsavers, they’ve always reminded me when it’s time to book an appointment but this is a new thing, reminding me to keep the appointment ...I was just curious to see if others have the same experience

No I'm not with Vision express, perhaps I should change. I'm with specsavers, and I'd waited a week for my new specs, attended the appointment on Wednesday, paid for parking walked 1/2 a mile in the pouring rain to get there on a day i wasn't well anyway, to find they weren't ready after all and no-one had bothered to call me. here I am 11 days on and STILL they're not ready,...after using specsavers for about 20 years it's the last straw , time to find a better optical supplier!!
