A question about using this forum

Hello to all of you,
I am trying to learn how to use this site. Please point me in the direction of any instructions?

And a specific question of mine is:
If i would like someone to see my response to their post, do they get an alert, just from me mentioning their username in my post?

Or would i need to quote them, or do some other action, to trigger an alert for them?

You would need to quote them or just quote by using the ''reply'' button on their post... or highlight their name thus... ampersand no space then their name.. ergo... @Kaila

Oh, one other thing is that on this forum, we don't discuss politics.. !! WE used to and it lead to some really bad feeling with some so the decision was to remove it from discussions, but it's whole nicer place for it tbh!!

Welcome. As Holly mentioned, hitting the "reply" button at the bottom of the post of the person you want to quote, does it.

Also, @Kaila , if you look at the top menu bar, under the word forums, there is a "New Posts" button, will show all the posts since you were last here.

yep you're absolutely right..I'm losing my mind... and it's very late!!

Kaila, any notifications are shown by the little bell at the top right of the forum page, next to the envelope icon. Members can choose if or how they want to be alerted to notifications in their preferences.

You can see Preferences and other options if you click on your user name next to the envelope and bell. If someone chooses to not be notified at all, then they will not see that you replied to their post unless they are here reading.

There is an option to Watch certain threads if you like, including ones you start yourself, just click on Watch at the top right of the thread, you can click unwatch at any time to stop watching that thread.

We're on fairly new software here, so we're all slowing learning all the ins and out of the features. Here's one thread that gives good information that you may want to browse through.

Just wondering...do you miss it? Or do you feel better off without it?

Maybe this site should have a lost and found, we could look for such things.

I only have my notifications set to alert me of Likes. If I'm not mistaken, it says clearly at the end of each notification you receive, of whether it was a Like, Mention, Quoted you in post, etc.
