My name is Norma and I am 72 years old. I have two grown children and 9 grandchildren. I am a Retired Pediatrics Physician and I retired at the age of 69 so not that long ago. I did enjoy my job very much. My husband and I had plans to travel many places together after retirement, but that was not in the cards for us as just 8 months after I retired my husband had a sudden heart attack and passed away. It has been difficult, but with my children and grandchildren they have been helping me cope. I do like to stay active and my two children play tennis with me on occasion and I do go out shopping with friends and to lunch. I don't travel as much as I like, but do take my grandkids places from time to time. I thought it would be interesting to join this community to interact with others my age and just reminisce about the good old times.

Welcome Norma. So glad to meet you.
Sorry to read about your husband.
So you are still playing tennis at 72?😧
That’s fantastic.
9 grandchildren sounds quite special.
I bet you’re a wonderful grandma 👵

Keesha, yes I still play tennis at my age. I don't move around like I did on the court when I was younger, but I still play. It keeps me active. My grandchildren are all so very special. From the ones in college down to the littlest one who is 5.

Awwww...... 5 to college years. You certainly are a lucky lady.

My father played tennis until he was about 86.
He got a knee replacement but didn’t do any physiotherapy. That ended him along with old age.

Have fun here. ❤
I think the game of tennis can be played at any age. I have certainly seen people older than myself on the courts. I think it is a great game because you use pretty much all of your muscles meaning your lower extremities and upper extremities get a workout.

I'm currently rehearsing for a show our theater group is doing called 70, Girls, 70. No one has ever heard of it, but it's a marvelous musical about a group of women in their 70's who are not fazed by their ages at all. Here's part of one of our songs (the women are obviously singing tongue in cheek, but the lyrics show their spirit, which I find inspirational).

“I went down to the tennis courts,

Lookin’ good in pleated shorts,

The girl I played was twenty-three,

But not at all a match for me

I gave a backhand, then a slice

I aced her once, then aced her twice

She staggered through the clubhouse door

I stayed and played for three sets more…

(AND SHE IS 70, GIRLS, 70)!”

You're very active, that's great. Sorry about your husband. There are other widows here to relate to. Hope you'll enjoy yourself among us!
Hello, Thank You, it shocked me so much and still does to this day that he is not here.
Well if that’s you in your avatar, you look great.
Yes that is me. Bless your heart. That is so sweet.

I love that. Don't know if I could handle a 23 year old on the tennis court though unless she couldn't play at all. :)

Hi Norma... I hope you've been reading the forum before you took the plunge and got the measure of us all.. :sneaky:.....welcome from London...

Sue, Hi and thank you for the welcome. Tennis is one of the greatest sources of exercises along with swimming. Actually you are just a stones throw away from me in Ithaca.

HI, Norma ,

I am sorry for that sudden loss of your husband. :(

Nice to have you spend some time with us, here.

Please don't throw stones at Sue in Buffalo.
;)
And watch for the dog from here, who might chase after the tennis balls, running across the border, from North of you.
